Do the jigs with eyes really help that much compared to jigs witout eyes?
I've tired quite a few jigs but haven't gotten into the jigs yet with eyes and would like to hear your suggestions and the way you suggest doing them.
I've seen some very impressive looking jigs here with eyes and am interested in trying some.

I like them, but don't think it's really necessary. I do them because I lik the way they look. I guess it's each individuals preference. I stick mine on, and the clear coat them... But I am gonna start putting clear nail polish over them to seal them. I have fished with both at the same time, and haven't seen a difference... But they are sure purdy!! Lol

Lol What Squeaky said; sometimes it's a confidence factor. I tie 'em both ways and haven't seen the difference.

I really don't think that it makes a big difference, but if I do put eyes on one, it's with a small black dot made with paint (no pupil).

I like them. I use the sick on and put a drop of Hard As Nails on each eye. Don't coat the whole head, it changes some powder paint colors. If a jig can't see, how do you expect him to catch a fish???? :-)
Always shoot for the moon, if you miss you'll still be among the stars.

I want every stinkin advantage I can use. I believe some times a fish sees the eye before he makes out the jig, especially in stained water. Think about it- thats the only thing on a jig that really looks like a live shad or minnow body part.

I think that eyes on a jig make it look better to fishermen but I don't think it matters to the fish. Usually I only put eyes on the heads with the recessed eye sockets on them. They do make a prettier jig though.

Someone outta run a test. Tie two matching jigs on your line, one with and one without eyes. Fish five trips, then swap positions with the jigs and fish five more trips. Then let us know what ya find....

Well of course eyes on a jig matter! If they didn't why would we put em on? Yes eyes matter a lot to the tyer!
Me thinks the fish could care less about eyes. Fish eat cut up bait all the time that don't have eyes. But dem eyes sure do make them jigs purdy! I used to put eyes on everything I tied. Now I rarely add eyes.

Thanks guys for the input. I sort of thought the same that it was for catching fishermen not fish. I've fished with them in the past and couldn't tell the difference myself. I love coming here and looking at the pretty jigs yall tie. Some give me inspiration for a new one I haven't tried yet. Keep posting your jig pictures please.

It's more than just catching fish, it is an art form. Eyes may make no difference, but I will continue to put them on because I like them, and it makes me feel good to look at the finished product and say "wow" "that looks good!!" To each his own! If it gives me just a slight edge.. It's worth it to me.
Plus... They are just so purdy!! Lol
