I have kinda been looking for a another boat. It sure seems like there alot of 20' boats out there. I have always been a fan for the 21'. Why are so many buying these? Is the ride better, cheaper, or something else?

You can buy my 21' boat...haha

People like the 20' for the smaller lakes around here. The pro's seem to think they can get them in tighter places too. I can promise you my 21' can get into some skinny places and it does not have a scratch on it.

Also it is easier to get a 20' in your garage.

Smallest rig that you can get a 250 with most manufacturers. That class boat also seems to be the prostaff rig of choice, and they all move their boats every 1-3 years.

I was looking for a Ranger boat not long ago. All the FLW boats are 20 footers according the the regional sales guy for ranger. I wanted a 21 footer but ended up with a 20. Honestly I don't think I can tell much difference. The one foot in the models I looked at was placed at the back deck... where I never fish anyway.
In a few years when I get another boat I'll probably consider the 21. I like bigger, but then again the 22 footers seem huge.

Maybe your thinking it out all wrong. Maybe all the guys that had 20 footers are getting 21's.

You selling the one with the powder coated ram mounts and such? Do you have it posted somewhere?

When I was shopping around, I wanted nothing but the FX21. But, after a dillema with my order, I ended up getting a FX20 and it's only 8" different. 6" were on the front of the boat and 2" on the rear. I don't know if I would be able to tell the difference. I was told by the dealer at the time that the 20' is popular because of the extra speed you get. I didn't really buy it, pushing 8" of fiberglass is not going to make a HUGE difference in my opinion.

That 8" of fiberglass has wiring, rubber, metal, foam, and carpet that all add up weightwise. Its not a huge difference by any means but when these guys are talking speed they seem to think 1mph is huge.

I think its all about garage space, I can't fit a 21 in the garage. And I couldn't justify the extra money for those few inches. But the speed thing I think is very minimal.

My 20 footer is 20.4. It's a good size that balances comfort, performance, economy, etc. I had a 19 footer that was great but it was a little cramped for things like 8 foot rods. Not a whole lot of differiance between a 20.4 and a 21.?

Thanks for the replies. Its hard to see that a 20' is better. I would think they would not ride as smooth as the 21'. I like a fast boat too but I am now starting to like one that rides good. Getting older sucks. LOL

I love having a 250hp on a 20' boat myself. Little more speed and a little better fuel economy than a 225. I also think they are just a little more fun to drive. To me 20' is more than anough room in a boat. Great all around size to me.
