Got a new Veritas rod and H2O Mettle reel for V day. Put them together and the rod won't tighten down enough on the reel. Reel is still loose. Any ideas or experience with this sort of issue?

I have the same combo and it works fine. Might just be that one rod.

It's the rod not the reel.

I've the same issue with the Vendettas. I had to try the reel on three 7'6" rods until I found one that would tighten down enough. I have a 7'3" and a 6'9" with no issues. Good luck

you could put some sort of insert to fill the gap if you didnt want to put it back...should be an easy fix.

I have 4 Veritas with assorted reels no problems...check the treads, see that it will screw all the way in and out without the reel...if it doesnt, go exchange it...great rods!

The reel seat and screw down on the Abu rods are a terrible design. Most rods have either the nut or the threads made of plastic, because you need something that has some give for the reel to fit in snugly. The Abu rods are metal threads and a metal nut and it just doesn't work very well. Even if you can tighten it down before you go out, it can easily come loose during use.

I appreciate all your responses. Will try to find another one tomorrow that will screw down properly. If not I can rig it somehow and make it work.

Try wrapping the reels feet in a layer or two of electrical tape and see if it fixes the problem

Cut a small piece of thin cardboard from a small box top the same width of the reel seat. Stick it up under the reel seat and it fills the gap good enough to keep the reel secure.

You read my mind. Lol. Hate to be taping new stuff but it's nothing but a cosmetic issue I guess.
