Hello, I'm new to the site, moved back to Wichita Falls Tx. after living in Bloomsburg Pa. for 4.5 years and then another 2 years in Illinois. I haven't been real catfishing in the Wichita River or in any of the lakes around here for a long long time. I have as my major rods 5 Ugly Stick Tiger Rods, have two spinning rods 1 which is a 11-13 ft. surf rod bought on ebay for 20.00 about 5 years ago, and 1 7' Medium (20-50 lb) Action spinning rod. Also have 2 Medium Heavy 30-60lb. action rods for baitcasting reels, and 1 Medium 20-50 lb. action baitcasting rod. I have two abu-garcia 7000c3's, one 6500c3, and one 5000 that I use mostly (love the 7000c3's), also have 2 penn 320 GT2's but I've never used them yet. I'm wanting to know if the Tiger rods still a good rod for small to medium catfish. Also do they still sell the 7000c3's or the 6500c3's, just haven't seen them in the stores, the 7000's used to be 99.00.

I have two Tigers that I use every time I fish. I love them. Haven't hooked anything real big on them, but they work perfectly on every fish I've ever caught under 10 lbs.

Your tackle that you have now will do just fine. They had the 6500's for sell at Academy's last I was in Wichita, you might wanna check there but don't really know about the 7000's. I've been useing the Uglystick Catfish rods and they worked pretty well from small to medium size fish...haven't hooked a biggun on one so couldn't tell ya. If you research there's better rods out there for your Moolah!!
Early to bed...early to rise...fish all day...make up lies.

I know academy has the 7000c3i but this is the new one, the old ones that I bought back in the early to mid 2000's were only 99.00, the new ones are around 130.00-150.00 price range.

Randys, I use the tiger rods with steel eyes. 7' med-heavy action. they have caught a multitude of fish from 2lbs to 36lbs. They have been holding up well with no flaws noted. I know that a lot of the other TFF members speaks highly of the pro angler rods.

I don't have the tigers but I have the white Ugly Stik Catfish Rods (4) 2pc 8' with 6500s and they work fine. They cast far as I'll ever need to cast them also.

ugle stick tigers are very tough, i lived in wisconsin for 4 years and used my 7ft rods to catch sturgin up to 7ft and almost 100 lbs. the river i fished was not big enough to break out the 12ft rods. i have not worn one out yet.

I agree with Bream Bum. I have Ugly Stik Catfish Rods that are also 8'. I could not be happier with them. I already caught 41, 34, and 32 pound blues this year with them.

For a rod ya can buy in most stores the ugly stick tigers are probably the best rod on the shelf for cats without going into custom rods or outrageous price tags only other rod that I would get is a proangler they are good rods for the money as well
fish to live and live to fish

I've got some 6-6 ugly sticks that have performed well......handled a few 35 pounders this winter with no problem. I like the ugly sticks!

I don't like the ugly sticks that have plastic glued into the guides. soon as that plastic cracks you got you a line shredder.
