if ya havn't, next time you go to bps, pick up a bag and give it a try. i use it on my crappie and cats, and i love it. i drive 60 miles to shreveport just to pick it up. i heard that they sell a similar item at a local store, but i don't know the name of it. if ya know what i am trying to describe drop me a line. i use to use white and yellow cornmeal, but since i found this one, that is all i use.
Use as many fishing poles as possable, for you never know when school will be out.

I tried the uncle buck's fish batter one time. Seemed rubbery and tough to me. I like cornmeal with Tony Cacherie's for mine.

I have been using Louisana Fish Fry and adding some Lemon Pepper or Lime Pepper ( new stuff). I used to make mine with white corn meal, but this is better. Get it at local grocery. GREAT !!!

I've used uncle bucks from bps and it was WAY too salty. I like the Louisiana Fish Fry if I buy it from the store but I usually make my own batter now.

BPS is my favorite, we buy the spicey, but you don't have to go all the way to BPS to get it, Albertsons carries it. Sharon

I use the Lousiana w/lemon batter (yellow bag). Try dipping crappie fillete in mustard and then cover with the batter. Fry in peanut oil. Great taste with a bit of tange.

Mustard is the only way to go! You can also try it on fried chicken and you will never go back.

It sounds bad but taste really good. You cant really taste alot of mustard; but makes the corn meal stick really good if you really soak it good in it!

When freezing fish filets, I add water, salt, and a healthy shot of mustard to the bags. My husband swears by it and he really is not a fish eater even though he loves to catch them.
Even if I am going to cook fresh fish, I soak them in the same water, salt, mustard mix.
The easiest, and cleanest, way to bread fish is to buy the small, unscented, trash bags if you can find them. These are 2-3 gallon bath trash bags. The one gallon freezer bags are too small. I just put my corn meal and spices in it and shake it up. Dump the wet filets in the bag and shake it. They are ready to drop in the hot peanut oil. If I am frying several batches I just give the bag another shake or two if I think they need it. Just toss whatever if left in the trash when you have finished. There is no mess and you hands stay fairly clean just handling the already breaded fish.

Fishnuker, you should be able to get the BPS fish batter at your local Brookshires or Wally World. Both retailers carry it around here. (Lake Fork) If they donn't have it, just ask the manager to order it. They are usually glad to accomodate a customer. I prefer to use an egg batter to make corn flake crumbs stick on better when deep frying. I put seasoning in the batter---lots of Old Bay Seasoning and crushed red pepper--I like it hot. You will probably need to buy a box of corn flakes and crush it yourself. A food processor works best, but a rolling pin works good too.
