This is 24 hour + old news locally, but for anyone planning to put in at the dam on Lake Palestine on Friday, be aware a plane crashed into the lake on Wed. night and they're still looking for the pilot on the west side of the lake out from Aero Estates. Divers found the aircraft on the bottom with the cockpit open and harness undone but no pilot. Pilot believed to be an 82 year old man. According to news, TPWD and local LE staff will resume the search at daybreak Friday and FAA will be on the scene Friday trying to pull up the plane for extraction, so the ramps at the dam may be somewhat crowded. It appears this will turn into a search and recovery effort. Thoughts and prayers to the family of the pilot.

Kudos for TPWD Wardens and divers for their efforts yesterday on raising Mr. Fred Scholz's aircraft under tough conditions. Watched them yesterday while on the water and talked to them last night at 7-Bs. They still have not found him, but will be back there this morning looking. Wind is about 15-20 mph out of the north, so it will be a rough day on the water where they'll be. Let's hope and pray they find him today to give his family closure, and may they have peace and comfort.

Hooking a fish is like playing string with a cat. The exact size, shape, color of string matters less than how you wiggle it- and little cats are easier to fool than big ones. John Gierach
