Hey there folks, here's a little report from a good day on the water. Started off this morning with fellow TFFer Worm on a Hook and went straight to pick up "Ray Hubbard Ray" from the wheel chair dock at bass pro. He said something about the other ramps being too steep and something else about Geritol but who keeps track of that. Searched some new spots this morning and kept busy with some small fish and said hi to a few other TFFers (Duece). Not much was going on but we had a good time...cue the bud light. Not too many other boats out this morning.

Took a quick break at Harbor Bay and decided to get serious about some CATCHIN! First stop outta the marina, BAM! It was on like it shouldn't ever be. Can somebody tell these fish its February and that they're not supposed to bite this well? You want to slab???? No problem, they'll hit it. You want to dead stick???? No problem, it was working. You want to throw your homemade coat hanger wire contraption???? No problem, "something" would hit it. Fishboy Frank and PlanoKeith were out there too and I hear they're dirtying up a fillet knife as I type. Here is a graph pic from this stop:

We kept on track of these fish for about two hours and boated who knows how many. We all agreed that it was well over 100...probably closer to 125 or 130. And as for the "What Is"....these fish hit harder, pulled tougher and were meaner than any sand bass I've caught in a while. Ray even made a comment about liking to catch these sand bass more than hybrid cause they PULLED! (don't believe that folks) These dudes pulled drag and shook their heads worse than Clinton when he denied Monica. Just wild fishing! Jake had two rods going most of the time and I honestly think he was getting irritated with catching cause he wanted to fool around with other stuff. Heres a pic of a signature "two rod, three fish" combo":

And another pic with at least our 10th "we all have a fish on" moment. very cool. and yes, that big one is mine...the other small ones are Jake and Rays

Ray even made a comment about catching too many fish to enjoy a beer! But don't worry, he persevered and completed the task. rolfmao

We waited around until about time for the schooling action to start and it sure didn't disappoint. They've been coming up every evening somewhere on the lake and today wasn't any different. And when they came up, it was complete madness. Hybrid smacking shad outta the water...birds getting hit with baits in mid air....people almost falling out of the boat to make a cast. Just another normal day. Here is a pic of the graph

Definitely one of the "what is and what should never be" moments. Why in the world are hybrid schooling at the surface this time of year? who knows but i like it. Ended the day with 10 hybrid and who knows how many sandies. Saw TFFer Muddy Water out there and he was slaying em too. Bet we coulda caught more if Ray didn't have to make it home by dark. smile Good times had by all!

$100 a head special still stands. Might make this a permanent thing if everybody enjoys it. Give me a shout!

Paul is right. It was just stupid! We fished two poles at a time and the other person would say u got a fish on. Response was "let me get this one in and I will worry about that one later". The sand bass were huge. We could have kept a limit of 14"+ fish each. No kidding. They hit so hard. U would think they would be lethargic but no they seemed mad as Hell! Thanks again to a great guide.

Ps.. ray where is my rod.

Excellent report Paul! I just got home a little bit ago. Like I mentioned on the phone this was a crazy day for Keith and I also... Keith and I had lunch and dinner at the dock then some buddies of mine stopped by tonight after we got in off the lake so we talked and watched ESPN then I had to clean fish... I mentioned recently in 30-years of fishing Hubbard this winter is insane. The only thing that comes close was about four years ago when we had a warm winter. I caught schooling hybrids all winter that year. I could tell more about today but want to wait for Keith's report. Keith and I were laughing the whole time catching fish. I yelled to Keith and saved his rod and reel a couple times when he got two timed on the rod in the holder and the one he set down! Just amazing.... Happy Fishing.

We were out there yesterday also but I think we were too early. Landed 3 fat sandies but had to leave around 2pm to pick up my little boy from school. I take it the show is happening later? Saw Bombay from far away and a couple of other boats. The day was perfect to be out there for sure, didn't need the drift sock much at all. Thanks for the reports!! Awesome catching for sure.
