Alright. I am interested in buying a chronarch but notice on EBay there are many different one's to choose from. I understand the 50 versus 100 differences, but see the white chronarchs ( newest ones) anodized finished ones, and then see the greenish gray ones that say bantam chronarch on the plates. I would like some opinions on the differences and which models are the best one's . Right now, it looks like the anodized ones from the mid 2000's are the most coveted. Thanks for the help.

The D series is arguably the best Chronarch. I've fished all of them but the B series, and the D is just the most comfortable, aside from the 50MG variants. As far as durability, one of the Chronarch A series I fish with is over 10 years old and still fishes like it just came out of the box. I wouldn't mind owning a few E series as well.
You know the old saying
If it floats, flys, or f___s it is always cheaper to rent!
You have to decide which is more important.

The D series has the B's refinement in a lighter reel. The Chronarch 50/51mg is also a classic.
Either the D or B will overall be the best, while the A/SF models and the D are the lightest outside of the 50mg (which really I'd consider a side series overall to the chornarch).
The Chronarch E is just meh compared to the B or D models, but it's also priced that way.
The Chronarch A is nice, but it sits higher on a rod than the D or B, doesn't cast as well, and the drag and gearing is a bit less powerful.
A Chronarch B at around $150 and the Chronarch D at $200 on the secondary market are your best bets for bang for buck IMO.

Thank you both. I haven't been able to find one of those B's for $150 yet. According to your info Aggie, I think I will hold out for a B or D.

The Chronarch E is a Chronarch by name only. It is actually a Curado E with a new paint job. I would recommend you keep your eyes open for a 100/101D. Awesome reel! Shimano better do something quick to undo the damage they caused with their crappy new lineup. This is coming from a guy who owns 20+ Shimano baitcasters. So sad.

Probably why they are now offering rebates on some models.

Shimano offers special deals all the time but this time you assume it is because of crappy reels. So what is different abou them in the mechanics.
