Put in at airport tuesday and went up. River still low, maybe we got 3-4 inches from the rains at best. Floated and dragged my way all the way to the rapids and back to launch. Came out with a total of 10 fish; 6 whites, all male, 3 gaspergoos, and 1 crappie for keepers. Not to say that they didn't bite; Went through 7 dozen minnows. Lots of dink crappie caught and many very light strikes missed, which tells me that the fish that are there are very small. I think the 2012 run on Nueces is gonna be another victim of the drought.
I live in the Hill Country, and going down there is getting to be quite an expensive proposition. I don't think I'll commit any more time or cash to that trip without some better reports. I love to fish but travelling that far is just too much when theres no fish worth mentioning at the end of the trip, IMHO.

Unfortunately, I have driven farther for less fishing success. I think a friend and I may go down later in the week or early next. We live in the Kerrville area and wrkonit if you want to come along there may be room.
Where did you get the minnows from??

If schedules allow, I'd love to come. I got the minnows at the store at the 99 exit. during the run, its hard to find them friday through monday, but during most other week days they will have them. From what I've been told by the store clerks there, they get their delivery on monday or tuesday mornings.
Thanks alot

Sounds like the crappie wanted to come up the river again. Guess there's not enough water. We caught some hogs a couple of springs ago, but the water was up much more than it is now.

True that. they were there, just lots of small ones. Sad thing is that the one keeper was the first one caught, so here I was thinking I had hit the jackpot. after a bunch of dinks though, disappointment set in.

I noticed you guys are traveling from Ingram and Kerrville so have any of you fished Colorado Bend state park? That would probably be a little closer than heading south to a dry creek. Last report I read they are catching some up there and some recent rains have put a little water into the river from the report. I knew I saw it somewhere! Same here. We tried up and down 59 bridge with the same results. We are not going back down there. To much work and not enough fish. Gonna start hitting medina this weekend and see if we can rustle a few up. Old man I saw tuesday night had a 5 gallon bucket full of whites.
We also wanna try the llano up at the mouth of LBJ. Havent been in several years, but we had good success in the past up there.

Hey limp line, Did you all use a boat, kayak or wade? If boat or kayak how far were you able to get down river toward the lake. Did you have to get out any drag you boat or kayak at any point? Did you get down toward Swinney Switch I hear that were the fish are.

Thats a good thought, Jimbo. By my calculations, though, thats a 3.5 hour drive from here; even further to go into unfamiliar territory. At least at the Nueces, its familiar territory. For me, that counts for a lot.

We took a little aluminum boat with trolling motor. We weren't in the boat for 3 min. We drug it the ENTIRE way. It wasnt even worth getting back in for the deeper areas. I just walked and pulled it. I have a kayak and wouldn't even mess with that. I would just jump in and wade. You hit a gravel bar within 75 yards either direction.
In regards to pop's at Medina, yes, it is dry. Our place is right across and there is no water. The whites are deep off points during the day and in the evening and night are coming up on to them shallower. If you have side scan or DI, you should be able to locate them. The lake is so concentrated due to being so low. We don't have any decent sonar, so we just troll till we find some. We are going sat and sunday, so I will have a report monday.

Sounds like if ya'll catch any whites this year you had better check yourself for ticks.
You know how them critters like to jump, and those fish are probably covered with them!
