Try coming back to US waters without a Mexico license and try explaining to the US coast gaurd what you were doing over there. Plan on loosing a couple hours of fishing time. Have heard this happen to a few people. They arnt allowed to check you for your mexican fishing license. Thats what they told me atleast.

You can't complain about people from the South of the border coming across and doing something they know is illegal if you are going to purposefuly go across the border and do something you know is illegal.
As for me, I'll stay perfectly legal and continue bitc8ing about those who don't.

I agree with the "get your license" crowd. It's 60 bucks... that's a heck of a lot cheaper than what you'll probably be paying if you get pulled over in mexico. 60 bucks for peace of mind is nothing. Do it right if you are going to do it.

My husband and I did our first trip to Falcon in January, we did not get a Mexico license. It was made pretty clear that if a boat was coming that was not another fisherman, get out...

Thanks I guess I was mistaken. Are you saying you can get your mexico fishing license in 1 day? Yes, got to the register at Falcon Tackle and say you want a license and within a couple of minutes you'll have one. As far as i know, there are no local equivalants to our TPW over in Mexico--I don't think lone law enforcement people would last long in northern Mexico right now. So theere is no government entity making sure people are following Mexican fishing laws. With that said, it is the law and if we fancy ourselves being responsible, law biding people we should follow the law. On the topic of not letting another boat come-up on you -- good luck running from every approaching boat. I don't know how many time I've been fishing around a point or in some trees when a Mexican netter has approached my position before I could have pulled my trolling motor up, secure my gear and get my big motor going.

Absolutely get a Mexican license if you are going to fish on that side. Its the right thing to do, which really should be reason enough. Its also the law and certainly not worth the risk of getting caught without one. I have never been checked for Mexican license either but NO ONE on this forum can tell you for sure if the Mexican authorities will be checking licenses tomorrow or next week. Why take the chance.

+10 I've had netters come up on me without knowing they were there. It could as easily been mexican marines. Having the piece of paper could stop you from being violated in a mexican jail if you know what I mean......

Yes, alot of people don't get then and have never got one. We used to just out run them at amistad if we saw them coming or if they try to stop us. Which was once every 5 years maybe, but know they have boats that have as much if not more hp than you do. I have heard of to many story's in the last 15 years of boat be taken and drag out of the water. $60 dollars is worth the peace of mind have it and knowing you are not doing anything wrong.

The Mexican GW at Amistad usually has 2 police officers or soldiers with her and they are packing { auto rifles }. I don't think I can outrun one of their rounds and would not even think about it. They say she speaks good english and is very nice.Just pay the $60 and have a good time.

Not trying to hijack this post but, yesterday, I witnessed a couple of handcuffed Mexican fishermen being arrested and their boat being confiscated. I asked what they had done and was told they were fishing illegally on the U.S. side. Now for all of you penny pinchers out there, I pose this question. What if it was you stopped on the other side about to loose your boat and all of your gear? Would $40 for a week or $60 for a year be too much to spend. Think of all of the other money that you have spent already to get there. I have fished over 30 days at Falcon in the last twelve months and no, I have not seen any kind of warden but, I am in their country and I don't mind the piece of mind. It could save you your gear and your rear. And by the way, if you think you can fish the Mexican side and always see what is coming, you are wrong. They can be on top of you in a heartbeat. Just my $.02 cents worth.
