Is anyone fishing in there and is it safe?

Tough question. Is it safe... well that all depends on your definition of safe. I have been as far back in the salinas as you can get. I have fished right next to multiple different mexican gill netters and never felt uncomfortable or unsafe. I have probably been all the way in the back of that creek 5 or 6 different trips.

But my defintiion of safe might not be your defintion of safe. Is it more dangerous then fishing the Valeeno, absolutely! Do I have any problem fishing in the salinas? Absolutely not. Fish where you feel comfortable. Falcon bass are all over the lake.

The biggest issue I've heard of down there of late is crowds and discourteous fishermen. The Salanias is as safe as any other creek on the Mexican side.

depending on when you last went it might look a lot different! The Salinas looks like an entire different world then it did just only 5 or 6 months ago. FYI- your spot might be dry land now.

We were there this past weekend and fished mainly Mexico for all 3 days. We fished Salanias, Salado, Coyotes and never felt unsafe - except that military helicopter that paralleled us at about 60 MPH... that was a bit creepy. I think I could have thrown a rock at it and hit it.

Lots of Mexican Fishing boats - just be aware and you'll be fine.

Trust me that ledge might be out of water. When you get to the back of the salinas the creek channel is the only thing that has water on it. I cant even get to where I used to fish back there where the large field is on the right.

We fished it on July 4th as far as you could get till it went down to a lane in the bushes just wide enough for a boat. The fishing with awesome back there, I never felt threatened until I spun my prop on the way back to Texas we hit a really bad wave about a mile from the border markers and lost almost all power I was able to idle out at about 2mph. That was a little uncomfortable but we made it and luckily Tony Gutierrez was able to come give us a tow!!! We saw the Military helicopter through out the day as well he just kept hovering then leaving and coming back like he was flying over the whole town. We only saw 2 other boats in the creek the day we were there. I would go back in a heart beat!!!

Was there on Saturday when the front hit big time. Right as the front hit we got a blame net caught in the big motor's prop. What a mess...could do nothing but cut it out with filet knife. As we were cutting it out a mexican netter came out of the cove about 200 yards away which made me uncomfortable. I was prepared to give them $20 if the came up and caused a stink as I am sure they knew what we were doing. These unmarked nets are a big problem. I was told in a previous form not to cut the main line, but I just don't see how that would be possible unless you were on dry land. I am sure that the loss of their nets pisses them off big time, but if it were me, I would have many markers attached to the nets so they could be seen.

Salinias doesn't go back a few miles anymore.

We went all the way to the back last time we were there (a couple weeks ago). Saw the Mexican marines, tons of gillnetters, never felt unsafe.

You can see the mainlake from most of what is left of it right now.

Thats basically what I was trying to say. It looks 100 times different then it did last year.
