Those Goo sure pull hard. Have caught them to 9.5 lbs and they pull like a 20lb blue.

how do you target gaspergoos? I usually catch them on a slab while sandbass fishing...

Well, I had a pretty good idea where they'd be from previous catches. Due to their smaller mouths I downsized my presentation. They usually feed on the bottom (though I've caught them on top waters!) so I fished very SLOW right on the bottom. That was basically my m.o. and it seemed to pan out.

We used to fish for them behind Grandbury with crawdads.

My biggest drum ever was caught behind the Lavon dam when the flood gates were open. No pics, only memories of that 42 pounder!!!! Caught it on a chartreuse jig and 12 lb line.
Religion is a guy in church thinking about fishing. Relationship is a guy fishing thinking about God!

From right now going on into April you can catch Goo at the Hwy 103 bridge on Sam Rayburn. I have the best luck using small mudbugs and a little hook.

From a distance you could pawn them off as giant Smallies! Could we take those goos on a sink tip fly?

Yeah, I think they'd hit a clouser or gummy minnow. A small crawdad fly would work, too.

Ive caught them with worms on the bottom....below the lavon dam. Back in the 80's me and my pops fished below the lavon dam a lot. Catching everything from stripers, sandies, cats, and drum. I remember one night all we caught was drum on every single cast. Fishing off the bottom using ghost minnows for bait when the water was on. When the water was off you could stand in the middle in the water and cast into the dam. The closer you can cast into the dam, the bigger fish you would catch.
