Any idea how many gallons it will take to cover the deck of my 19ft blue wave?

I've got a 189T model, if that helps.

I am thinking 3 to 4 gallons, any idea if that will work? The less I have to buy, the better, obviously.

I plan to do the front and rear decks in blue, as well as the sides. The floor will be a light grey. I'm not doing the console.

Thanks!
Shawn

Keep us informed on this project. I have a Blue Wave 22 that I want to do the front deck on. My parents live in San Antonio and I would love to see your boat after you've done it.

I think you have choosen the right stuff. I would measure the square footage and just call the guys and ask how mcuh they recommend.

sbmcruise,

I will definitely post up the results.

Supposedly it covers 60sq. ft per gallon with two coats, making it 1/16" thick.
I think that would be PLENTY considering the fact that the sample that they sent me was probably less then 1/16" thick and it was VERY tough. I rubbed it on the concrete in my driveway and it took a lot to even slightly affect it.

I will probably order it this week. It MUST be done before next weekend, March 12th, because I am headed to LBJ and want to have it knocked out when I go up there.

I am thinking that a gallon will do the front deck and the rear battery box/livewell/transom, another gallon for the gunnels, and then another gallon for the floor. I will most likely have a bit left over, but I'd rather order too much then too little, ya know? If I have a lot left, I could always use some on the inside of the hatches, just to get rid of it. I know it isn't supposed to sit for long once you pop the can open, or it will cure on you.

Will keep ya posted.

Shawn

Shawn -

Figure 50 square foot per gallon. The data
says 50-60, but I think 60 would be stretching
it.

You are wise in choosing the Durabak over the
TuffCoat. I regret having topcoated over the
Durabak with the TuffCoat (for color reasons). I will probably be doing it over again before long with Durabak.

Just follow the directions that comes with the
Durabak and you won't be dissapointed.

If your boat is 19' long and 8' wide it would take 2.53 gallons @ 60 Sq ft to the gallon.

Don,

It's actually a little bit more complicated. I plan to coat the gunnels (sides) of the boat also, so that adds in a few feet high by about 16 feet long. The boat is 8' wide, but it is probably not 8'wide on the floor in the inside. I'll have to get out there and do some measuring to get it right...

Just ordered 3 gallons of it.

$349.50 w/shipping, ouch! oh well, it will cost less then having it gel coated and webbed, and it will last longer, so it will be worth it. Anything to get rid of the carpet wink

It should be here within a week (7-10days), hopefully they aim long and ship sooner. I will start tearing the boat down this week to get ready for it...and will post before and after pics to show how it compares, and what it took to get it done.

Take care!
Shawn

Here's a few pics of progress and what's involved, for those interested.

As it was with carpet (bad pic, but all I have). Oh, and this fish is what made me decide to lose the carpet. It flopped on the floor three times and slimed half the boat...:

The rest of the pics of removing the carpet, the side grab-rails, the cooler tie down up front, and the gas tank. The hardest part, by far, was the removal of the gas tank. It just BARELY fits into/out of that space between the console and flip/flop seat. It is also half full, so that didn't help any!

Tomorrow I plan to get the carpet off of the front deck, transom, and the two compartments in the back. After that, I'll pull the rub-rail off the outside of the boat, pull all of the hatches and hardware off, and begin sanding on it. It doesn't look like it is going to take too much sanding, most of the glue pulls off fairly easy.

Take Care!
Shawn

Catfish,

I will let you know. Luckily my boat is solid and there is really nothing to repair.

The only thing I plan on doing is replacing the rubrail all the way around, adding storage boxes near the bow (like on some of the blue waves), replacing cleats, and possibly painting the center console.

Turning out to be a pretty good project!

Here's the most recent pic:

I have about 3/8 of it sanded down and ready for the durabak. Hopefully the durabak will get here by tuesday or wednesday. We'll see what happens. I want to call them tomorrow to see if they have a tracking number, just to see where it's at. They said 7-10days, hopefully it is less.

I also am going to order and install a new rub-rail. I am ordering that from BlueWave tomorrow.

Will keep everyone posted!

Chris,

It will be done...I assure you.

I got it almost 100% sanded down tonight. Tomorrow I will sand the few little areas that I missed, and clean the piss out of it.

After that, I'll tape it up, and clean it again! Then I'll get to rollin' the durabak and hopefully I'll have enough wink

It will be on the lake whether it is finished or not, but I dont see any reason why it wont be complete.

What time are you all planning on showing up?

Shawn

Shawn,
We are probably leaving around 9 or 10am Friday morning. Pretty much after Savannah has her feeding we will head out. What about you guys?

Chris

Chris,

I think that I will be leaving a little later. Jeff and I may still have a little bit to do on the boat friday morning, and we may also head out to Calaveras to try and catch a bit of trotline bait. He bought a trotline to tie between the docks on the lake...we'll see how it works.

Jeff can't leave until Stacie gets home from work...so I may go ahead and wait until they head up. Then again, I may leave a bit earlier..who knows?

You'll be more then welcome to join us fishing when we get there...I've got room for about 5ppl fairly comfortably..

Looking forward to seeing Savannah!

Take care
Shawn
