Mark would u throw black/blue jigs all year? Or would it go with the green pumpkin or similar later in year? I would probably go with black/blue if I had to pick just one but I would add a green pumpkin trailer later in the year. not trying to be smart I am serious. I often mix up the jig and trailer colors. learned that a few years ago when Ernie worked at LFT and also from pack.

The other thing that i always notice is how little I see pros changing colors in a tournament. same thing on Ultimate Match. They hardly bring anything at all and i bet 90% of the plastics are always green pumpkin.

primarily, I always start off with about 10 different potential lures. By the time I see the water color, temp, and level in person I knock about 50% of these out. For instance, I always have a jerkbait tied on when water is 60 or less, but I don't even consider it if the water is chocolate.
However, there have been situations where I've gotten a glimpse of the forage fish and have done everything possible to match the hatch. OR I've had a bed fish that just wouldn't cooperate and I end up mixing and matching my soft plastics (ex: gluing certain colored pinchers on certain bodies). It's not uncommon for me to have 20+ soft plastic lures thrown at a bed fish before I figure out the combo that makes them tick. But it seems like if they nip at it or if I miss on the hook set, I have to start all over with the process again.

I'm with you on this one. There was a time I thought I had to get good at all the techniques, even the ones I didn't like all that much. Now I've got it down to a few colors and about 6 lure types and two or three proven colors and that it. Never liked drop shotting much anyway>

Was just thinking about the same thing this weekend. I began attempting to organize some tackle and got overwhelmed. I've got so much stuff scattered between an huge upstairs closet, my office, the garage, my lake house and boat storage and Camelot Bell, it is really sad. I was only attempting the stuff here, didn't make a dent and ran out of drive and patience after a few hours. How the heck did I accumulate so much stuff and how am I ever gonna find the time to pull it all together and organize?
Coincidence is His way of remaining anonymous.

Everything I buy is absolutely necessary to catch fish! Every lure hanging on the peg board in my garage and the 3,456,219 baits I have in my boat are critical to catching fish. That's right Mrs. Bassdreamer, I MUST have all those rods and reels too!

I periodically go through my garage stuff to cull things I haven't used in a long time - like, years! - and find the same thing.
Shad-colored hardbaits. A few colors of jigs, usually black/blue, green pumpkin, brown/orange and bream, and a few colors of plastics.
Boxes get loaded up and donated to my old high school fishing team, which my father coaches. I don't give 'em junk or old line. Whatever they get, they can use.
Find a high school or college program and make a donation. They're glad to get it and you're paying it forward to help the next generation of anglers.

If KVD made an announcement tonight that he was going to start fishing out of a submersible half the boats in texas would have a 4-sale sign on them before the sun came up tomorrow morning.

I know what you mean as far as fishing with less, I can pretty much fish whatever plastics I have underneath my seat, whatever is laying in my glove box and be just fine all year at Falcon. Oh I do have one Plano box of deep divers and KVD 2.5's.

If I stop buying fishing baits (hard & soft) it would probably take me 5-10 years to use up/lose what I currently have in inventory...LOL
