I love trying new baits but I have noticed the more I fish the less colors and baits in general i use. I know what I like and what gets me bit so I keep paring my soft plastics colors down to 2-3 that really get used and same with hardbaits. I tend to keep it simpler these days. seems like I catch more fish too. Don't know if its a coincidence but it seems related. I honestly think I could survive throwing green pumpkin soft plastics, black and blue jigs and shad pattern hardbaits all year and do just fine.

I really have done pretty good the last year or two. I hardly ever buy junk I don't use anymore.

I took out close to 70 pounds of baits that I didn't need in the boat. It's crazy the things you thought you had to have or things that worked for a brief while but you always go back to the staples.

Mark its funny you say that about colors.
I have heard Gary Klein say that to many weekend anglers fish to many different colors trying to find something that will work and that pros pick what they have confidence in and make it work.

Seems logical to me.

I agree with this in theory....

I do have a hard time limiting my soft plastics to 3, but it's not logical. Green pumpkin and watermelon are so close and I seem to have both colors in everything......

Top 3 soft plastics:
Green pumpkin
Chartruse pepper
Black/blue

I always seem to have some pumpkin and blue fleck around as well though....

Easier said than done.

Mark would u throw black/blue jigs all year? Or would it go with the green pumpkin or similar later in year?

I have said many, many times I should eliminate everything but waht I use, which would cut down my tackle to about 2 boxes maybe 3. And rods down to about 6.

That will be the day though.

Mark I agree with you. Being broke helps me decide on tackle also Haha. Shad and craw cranks and traps ,watermelon red , and blue flake plastics n jigs could get me through the year.

It only took me about 6 months of bass fishing to figure this out. Thank God!

God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change; courage to change the things I can; and wisdom to know when to go fishing.

I figured it out in 6 months also. LOL ! It took a lot longer to trust it though.
Even longer to develop the discipline.

Anything that crawls on the bottom of any lake I have ever been to has some shade of Green to greenish pumkin in it. Perch, crawfish, hellgramites, and leeches. Definitely can't go wrong with that color on a jig or soft plastic.
