P Line Spooler. Look it up on Tackle Warehouse. It works beautifully I love the berkley set up but like he said the tension screws always strip out after a short period of time so I bought one of the p-line spoolers solely for the parts which I now use on the berkley unit and they have worked great for both small and bulk spools.

If your at the lake, drop your spool of line in the water or livewell with water in it, and spool it up. The water will create enough drag and you won't have to worry about the birdnest on the first throw.

pencil between the feet works great. This for 30+ years and ive never had a problem with the line or long relationships

Friction on the line itself (like through a phoneback) will heat up your line and weaken it. Never put friction on the line itself. Tension on the spool edges.

Do to the economy, I have no station, I just set the spool inside and old shoe and get to winding.

I made mine from an old spinning reel where the spool contained the drag washers in it and where the tension knob compressed them to tighten or loosen the drag - If you have ever taken apart an old spinning reel you'll understand this... I took the main shaft that held the spool out of the reel and broke the plastic star that encased the drag tension nut so I could run it down the shaft threads further...then I have a small c-clamp that i can clamp to what ever is close and place the spool of line on the shaft and the smooth side of the spool goes to the reel spool stop washer and then I place the drag washer on next then the tension nut and I can set the tension to what I need and wallah I'm fill'n reels without backlashes to the line spool and keep'n good tension on the line going on the reel...

what the hell? I throw the spool on the floor and start winding. I tension with my fingers holding the line in front of the reel. I didn't realize it could be that complicated.

Berkley spooling station if I am at the house. Pocket of my tackle bag if I am in the boat.
