After a week of nice warm weather, the cold front slowed the bite down, but the fishing is still pretty good! The All-Terrain jig is still putting all the fish in the boat for me. I'm working channels and gunning for big bites. Depth is relative, depending on where. It is very common to catch fish in 3' and 20' in the same day. There are deeper oriented fish that will not move up for a while (that are less affected by weather changes) and shallow fish that are hot and ready to spawn. Fish have recovered from the initial shock of the cold front and were more active today. It should continue to improve, and this coming week should be BIG fish time. Also, I'm just thrilled with my custom jig rod. Reel Time Rods made a rod exactly how I wanted. I asked Ron to make a rod for me with a strong backbone and sensitive tip with a full cork handle. I wanted a rod built for jig fishing. I can't stress how important it is to have a sensitive rod for jig fishing, not only to feel bites, but to finesse the jig through root wads without hanging up. Then you have to get those big fish up out of the branches. Sounds like a shameless plug, I know. But I can compromise a bit on my trap, worm, rig, or spinnerbait rod, but not on my jig rod. Black and blue is good, but if you want to try something different, Texas craw and black brown and amber are good colors to try. There is a good trap bite and squarebill bite right now as well. What a life! I am so thankful I get to be on this lake everyday. I have to pinch myself sometimes when I'm out here. I am living the dream! These pictures are from the past few days. No giants, but they are coming.

Great post! Was there yesterday and today (and the last two weekends) with my buddy and the fishing was tough, but doable. I find your jig rod comments interesting. I'm using a 733 Dobyns Champion split grip jigging, and I'm curious about your preference for a full cork handle. I have really enjoyed the jig bites the last few weeks and am interested in adding a jig specific rod to the arsenal. I think I'll be picking it up quite a bit year round.

I really think you could get by on a jig everyday. Its a great bait all year. I like full cork because I use the rod for leverage under my arm, and there is no sacrifice of sensitivity by using full cork. Split grips are in style right now but Im constantly getting the handle caught in my jacket pocket when I use split grips I just like the old fashioned handle. I don't really see a reason to use anything else.

I was lucky enough to be one of the guys fishing with Andrew on Saturday. Andrew is a great guy and a heck of a guide. If you like a guide that's a jerk, front deck you all day, and treats your trip as if it's a privilege to simply fish with them the Andrew is NOT the guy for you. If you like a like a guide that has great knowledge, puts you first, and busts his butt to put you on fish well he's THE MAN. In tough conditions he gave us a day that would be considered strong in ideal weather. If you're heading to Fork he'll do you right. He's good people.

I would not want to have been a Fork guide on Saturday with that front blowing through. If he can put you on some quality fish in those conditions that says something about him.

Fished with Andrew on Thurs and Friday evening. I would recommend him to anybody that is looking for a guide on Fork. He is very knowlegable and really knows how to jig fish! Thursday was tough for us but we still caught 4 goodones and lost a few more. Friday evening we did pretty well boating 12 nice slots with many others bites as well. Think I'm heading out with him Tuesday for the full moon hopefully a pig will bite!!!

Thanks again for the response!

After watching the beautiful weather slip by we fished with Andrew on Saturday in the 15+ cold wind, he stuck with it and kept our confidence up and we ended the day with around 20 bites and 14 fish all on jigs, he put in a 10 hour day and seemed happy to do it on a very bad day. We will be going with Andrew again this year and I highly recommend him!
The day after catching a lot of fish is still a good day.
