 Installing Gas Shocks for Deck Lids?

Has anybody out there installed gas shocks on there boat deck lids? Was wondering about the size,length and pounds of pressure needed for a job like this and what all is involved? Also, the type of mounting brackets to use,flat,offset or 90 degree? Any info and/or tips would be appreciated.

jmark go to www.mcmaster.com then index gas shocks they have a table to caculate length, weight, width and a good selection of shocks and mounts at a fair price.

Most make the mistake of just screwing end mounts to the boat. They need to be mounted with drilled holes, screws with washers and lock nuts. Angle and height of mounting most important to insure holding lids shut. Look at some boats with shocks installed to get ideas on size of shocks and locations.
