I have a 12v, 44# Minnkota of undetermined age pulling a '79 Ranger. TM seems to be getting weak. Took boat out yesterday and even on highest setting (5) motor seemed anemic and didn't have the needed power to adequately negotiate the wind. Battery showed 12v charge and had had a trickle charger on it for 4 weeks (could this actually weaken battery?) How does one tell if its time to rebuild the TM (if its even advisable to do so) or simply buy a new one? '79 Ranger wasn't set up to easily accomodate 24v system, though I know that would improve matters. Appreciate your comments!

Try another battery first and check behind prop for fishing line. If no help check amp draw. No problem for 24v, can use same wires but would recommend new larger wire and 40amp breaker.

Trickel chargers are the worst thing for a battery. They boil the water out of the battery.Check the water, then go get a charger that cut off when the battery is fully charged. If you want a new motor,I have a New Minn kota AT 40/42 W/2 yr Warranty for $250.00.(504)494-3172

Bassmaster, I can't remember the brand, off hand. It's a deep cycle of undetermined age.
