I have a 24 volt trolling motor. I have been told that I can hook up my 12 volt accessories to one of those batteries, pos to pos and neg to neg and on that set up my accessories would only be getting 12 volts even though my trolling motor is hooked up pos to neg & pos to neg.
Is this correct???? Can I do this and only have 12 volts going to the accessories?

I have my 12V acc connected to my main motor starting battery to give extra life to a full charge on my trolling motor batteries. What you are suggesting would work, I would have a fuse directly off the Pos side though. I have never had my main motor battery run down from using the accessories, also the alternator?generator in your motor will charge the battery a little as ypou are going to your next spot. cheers

I have my electronics hooked to one of my two trolling motor batteries. I don't figure the draw amounts to anything at all.

The main reason I did may be wrong. But in my younger days of installing bigger more powerful stereos in my autos banana , before I got old enough to enjoy what comes from the factory fish

fishingbuffalo that is how mine came from the factory; however, I have had my cranking battery go down when I have run the live wells all day on a club tourney which are 5-5 on Saturdays and 5-1 on Sunday. I was thinking it would not hurt the trolling batteries much as they are designed for the constant draw without recharging. Of course the days I am running around a lot it would not matter as like you said the alternator charges it back up.
DannyB as I understand it that is how your doing it. Has it cut down on your trolling motor performance much? Do you get any interference on your electronis from the trolling motor itself?
Thanks for the responses.

If you wire your accessories to one of your TM batteries, you are MORE LIKELY to experience interference due to the TM. Not saying it "will happen"; just more likely. Not wiring your sonar to one of the TM batteries is about a universal recommendation from the manufacturers and other electronics experts!

I'm only have one live well and two pieces of electronics. I usually don't carry a big load off the battery. I do keep all my batteries fully charged. I can get 4 full days off my TM battery and main battery. Also, interference is possible too when the TM bolt surges.

Well I am in a center console and only have one fishfinder on the dash. So I am never running the trolling motor and electronics at the same time. As a matter of fact I rarely use the trolling motor anyway---usually just for running in on some top water Stripers.

Maybe the answer is to get a Deep Cycle/Cranking Battery for the big motor the next time it fails and keep everything as it comes from the factory...

It is always best these days to keep things as they come from the factory. Making monkey changes sometimes leads to more problems instead of solving just one issue. I also run a deep cycle cranking battery. I leave both fish-finders on all the time and don't run the battery down. If that were to happen maybe it be time for a new battery. violin
