I read the other question about that boat doing 80+ mph. My question is how can I increase my top end speed of my boat, But I would like to do it safe, reliable, and legal. I have a Skeeter TZX190 with a Yamaha 150 Vmax my Jack plate is high enough that I am seeing MAX RPM and MAX Trim. without over doing it. I have a M-23 pitch prop from the factory which is said to be the prop that boat is tested with, and to be the best for that model engine and boat. I'm seeing about 60mph max on a good day. I would like to be in the mid to high sixty's. Any ideas from anyone or know of anyone I can chat with please give me their #. Thanks.

Buy a bigger engine. Not trying to be funny, but you are getting all you can out of that setup. You may try a bigger pitch prop, however your holeshot will suffer. Also your engine might not turn it max RPM's. Most of the time when you are running near the limit of your setup any increase in MPH is in direct relation to cubic dollars. 1/2 a MPH can get expensive, 4 or 5 MPH is national debt.---Smitty

What Skeeter185 is telling you is 100% accurate. Go to this URL and you will see: http://www.yamaha-motor.com/outboard/products/perfbull.aspx?ls=outboard TZX190 with a 150 was tested and ran 57.8MPH TZX190 with a 175 was tested and ran 65MPH If you are getting 60MPH GPS you are dialed in perfectly/definitely above average....

If you are serious about getting more out of less, you are only limited by the size of your wallet. Look at www.yamaha-rebuild.com and check the high performance tab. These guys are one of the few performance shops that work with Yamaha. Most high performance motor shops work with Mercury. I do think there is a lot that could be done, but it is never cheap.

Sell the 150, buy a 175. That's what I would do if I just had to have mid 60's.

Figure about 10 horsepower per one mile per hour increase.
Or take 100 lbs out of the weight for the same increase.
This is a situation I see nearly every day. He can drop two grand on mods, find his 65 mph, and then "70" would be utopia, then of course "75"
It does keep us in business.

pbcajunman,
I am not sure exactly how fast you need, but I played with a 21M from Yamaha, and that thing spun the rpms to about 5800 and not sacrifice to much on hole shot. I was running a 22 foot boat with a 200 yami, and I was getting 60 mph from that set up, and was only getting 55 from the 23M.
Good luck!

Basslikeme, that Nitous system will add some MPH, but it's hard on a engine. Builds up alot of heat and if left on for too long will fry a engine. I had a Land & Sea setup on my racer and couldn't leave it on for the whole 1/4 mile. Of course I was turning it 9,000 RPM too. I always have went by the saying. If it's fast , it won't last. lol---Smitty

Pat, You are so right, but if it wasn't for us wanting to go faster you would get bored.

How much would it cost for me to be able to go more often, instead of faster?
