So I have another question for you guys. I was a little worried that I would not be able to find bait down in Sargent this weekend. I was at wal-mart and found some whole finger mullet in packages and picked up a couple. Now that I have them I realized I have no idea what to do with them. I am trying to target some bigger reds. I've read that people fillet these finger mullet out, some cut into chunks, and some fish them whole. Does anyone have experience with this bait. Any advice at all is greatly appreciated!

I've used them for bull reds with mixed results. Normally I hook them through the eyes on a decent sized circle hook. Then cut the last third (tail portion) of the mullet off.

You can cut them or use them whole, depending on size. The bigger bull reds are usually caught on a whole mullet. Live mullet has always worked better, but frozen will work too.
Love them reds

I like mullet live, fresh dead or frozen, although recently I have been catching whiting, croaker and pinfish on a lighter rod and small hook tipped with a little frozen shrimp, then use them as either live bait if small enough or as fresh cut bait.
To my surprise, on the last time out a few weeks ago I caught a number of almost legal flounder on cut croaker, and here I thought flounder only went after live bait.

I hook live finger mullet inside the mouth through the roof of the mouth. You can drift them and they will swim along without drowning. Smaller ones 4-6" are great for big trout.
