I have a 12v deerfeeder battery already, but last week when it died on the water (from me not charging it ahead of time) it got me to thinking about a backup. Can a FF run on a 6v battery? I really would like to avoid a $30 backup battery if I don't need it. Of course I would need to remeber to bring it LOL
My FF is a Hummingbird 570
Thanks, and sorry if this is a dumb question Steve

I dont think a 6volt battery can power a 12volt fish finder... Now 2 6volt batteries wired together in a series maybe.. but yeah I dont think that 6volt will be doing you any good as a backup for the fish finder.

Yeah you need to have a full 12v to run the FF or 8 AA wired in series too. Also if you are going the AA don't get rechargeable like I did, they are .1-.2v less than a normal AA battery and will not run a FF. That was a tad of a expensive mistake the first time but now I have plenty of batteries for my Wii and remotes.

Thanks, I am thinking my 12v battery got low and it could not power it. It was completely drained and took all day to get a 12v charge back on it. I am hoping i did not ruin it by letting it drain all the way down. So far it has held it's 12v charge for a day, but that is under no load.

The lowest voltage the my Humminbird will run on is 10. Which is pretty low for a 12 Volt battery. http://store.humminbird.com/products/307290/PiranhaMAX_180I have run mine down a couple of times and it will not work when the battery drops below 10 Volts. Recharge and good to go.
RealBigReel I don't go too fast but I go pretty far.

Thanks, When I got home it tested at 8v. Nothing worse than being out there and your FF dying.

This might sound dumb, but do you have a small amp fuse from bat to ff........maybe this will help I have a 5amp fuse and my bat will last several Trips. ????? Don't know if this is coincidence or not, but I've never had bat problems Hope this helps somehow

You would need 2 6 volt batteries for sure, not sure about the fuse but i always install one as well.
I will keep looking somebody had these on sale for around $10.00.

I been using the 8AA set up for a year now. Pick two holder with the 9volt leads from RS and a box of battery for less then $10. Plus a $10 dry box from WW Loaded them both up in same box with a switch and 3amp fuse , after about every 6 day trip change out holder and change out those battery. Can run FF all day or all trip long on one set up.
