The old ones are great. I have had very bad luck with the newer ones I tried. Gears strip out and they just generally fail within a few months.

+1 on the old ones. keep them and rebuild them. the newer ones are nothing like the usa metal foot reels

You can get a "base model" Zebco 33 today for approximately the same $$$ or less than you could get one of the "originals" 30 years ago. How could we really expect them to be anywhere close to the same quality. What bothers me is that they have "sold out" and cheapened what was an honored and respected trademark. Don't know if we should blame Walmart, the Chinese, or corporate greed and want for the quick buck (Wall Street) for this.
Given inflation, the Zebco Omega is probably the real Zebco 33 in todays market, and I have to admit, it is a very nice reel and seems to be holding up as well as any of my old USA 33's.
I also have a Titanium version of an 11 and it seems like a fairly high quality little reel ... would assume the 33's are similarly crafted. Then there is the "gold" series ... have no knowledge of the quality of the build in those.
This might be the weirdest, most pointless post ever. I am not against golf, since I cannot but suspect it keeps armies of the unworthy from discovering fishing

I have four or five of the old ones I'd sell. plus some abumatic 170's, 280's and 290's. Bought 'em for the grandkids and they're all grown now. They're in my boat stall at Roberts. PM me if you have any interest.

Zebco 33 are great! I have old ones, new ones, and Pro ones! Use them alot! The old ones are better for some reason! New ones are disposable!

I still have my Zebco 202 and the rod(planning on a rebuid for it soon) that came with it! Got an old 33 somewhere??? Probably back home in mom's attic. Yep, back in the day gear was built to last and basically an investment in longevity. THere were years of junk put out for sure! Things now a days seem to made as disposable. I prefer quality....my .02cents.......
