I like to use the oval shaped split rings on the line tie of my crankbaits. My question is, do any of you use them to connect your hooks to the cranks or do you use the plain round kind on your hooks? If you do what are the binifits?

I remember purchasing a few of the Rick Clunn "Orion"cranks years ago @ Bass Pro..(Lost em' though) that had the hooks connected with oval rings....Missed a ton of fish..Granted, Crankin' was NOT my best technique back then ... They seemed to snag EVERYTHING!

round on the hooks for sure. i'll use oval on the front of the bait if i've got them, but i really don't think it makes much of a difference. about the only thing is the oval ones keep the knot away from the ends of the split ring.

I lost 2 or 3 big fish at Amistad, the sharp ends on the round split rings cut my braided line. But I still have not purchased the oval split rings, will do so in the near future.
