Yamaha or Merc 4 stroke = Same motor

2 strokes are not going away. HPDI is already compliant with the 06 standards.

FYI you can now order Skeeters rigged from the factory with Mercs.

Mike P. According to Mercury. The 2001 115hp four stroke that I have are only half Yamaha. Witch half, I can't remember now. They also went on to say that the new ones are now 100% Mercury

I went thru the same thing last summer. What to buy? I went 4/stk. Yamaha F-90. After a lot of thought. If you compare the trends of auto. tech./laws in the state of Cailf. The new laws start there and within a short time the rest of nation follows. I can do my own maint. Timing belt is alot less work than a powerhead. And less $$$. Just my .02 CBW

I push 4/strokes not because of the higher price but because the advantages.
1.50% fuel savings
2. no oil
3. quiet/dependable
4. weight outweighs and disadvantages on "most" boats.
. last 4-5 times as long

Not all warranties are equal!
Honda covers "everything" for 3 years.
Mercs quit covering electrical in the 2nd year as well as Yamaha.
Suzuki doesn't even cover powerheads and lower unit in the 3rd year or electrical

You forgot Nissan, great motor at a great price. I got mine In Mo and paid $1000.00 less that I would have here.

Is it just me, or does anyone else like that 2-stroke smoke smell when you first crank it in the morning.

Oh I like the smell just fine, but I don't like that sonalert telling you your oil reservior is low...

If I ever decide to buy a new boat/motor, it will be a 4 stroke.

Doesn't seem like you were that interested in the differences between the two motors after all.

Kat-man-do when i first started my search for a new boat i was looking for a no wood all aluminum welded v bottom boat . And now that my great hunt is over with ill tell ya it was hard to find . When i posted this i had finally setteled for an alumicraft that was the total opposite of what i was looking for it was riveted had wood every where but it had the layout that i wanted and it was real sharp .They was giving me my choice of 4 or 2 stroke on the motor so i was trying to make my decision . And i am glad that i took that time to ask that question because in the mean time i found a web page where a man had bought a triton v bottom boat just like what i was looking for no wood anywhere . Well call me crazy but i called the place where it had sold from in wichita falls and the guy did not have any more like it but he called up triton . Triton had one boat left like it they changed up this version for 2004 and made it a little to deep for my taste .But that 2003 version is just shallow enough to bass fish out of and just deep enough to not get wet . Now the problem was that the boat was the one they took the pictures for the catalog and had a motor already attached they had wrapped this boat up to ship out and had never shipped it so they wanted to sell it like it was with a yam 115 2 stroke . So what was i supposed to do here is the boat ive been yearning for but i knew nothing of the motor so i did a post about the motor and got nothing but good responses about it so i think ill just have to have her im in hog heaven . If you happen to get the chance to see the triton 2003 aluminum boat catalog my boat is the red 174dv on page 4 its a painted tank that will float ha ha . Well thats my story and im sticken with it . I highly appreciate all the info guys yaw have a good one .
