Help my motor quit running. I have a 2002 tracker 25 h/p and it just quit on me last weekend with me and my daughter in it. acted like it ran out of fuel but I had half a tank. changed plug,s thinking that might help but it didn,t. I am getting spark and fuel. It will start and run for a little while then stop. any help would be very nice. My boat is what keep,s me sane living with 3 girl,s.

Could it have any thing to do with the air mix on the fuel tank?My smaller motor sounded like it was out of gas if air release wasnt open fully.

Bill Has your boat been sitting for awhile if so the carb could be stopped up also push in on the key switch to activate the choke when it is trying to die and if it stays running that tells you that carb is stopped up and that means a carb overhaul OPTI

No opti I use my boat all the time. took prop off tonight and found oily goo up in the exaust. did get it running but had to stay in the throddle at about 3 grand to keep it going. I hope it is nothing serious I don,t have the money to get it fixed. Up till now I have had no problem,s with the boat.

Sounds like the carb is flooding when you pulled the old plugs out were the real wet. You say your getting fire did you check fire on both cylinders Another thing that can happen is the choke on the key switch can go bad and it will stay in the cold start mode all the time and cause a very rich condition pull the cowl off and there is a little solenoid that set on top of the carb and unplug yellow /black tracer and seen if will run but you are for sure running rich for some reason Hope this helps OPTI

opti the new plug,s that I put in seem to be real wet when the motor quit,s. my motor also has a knob that you pull out to choke the motor. but you can also turn it im not sure what that does. I have seen the little solenoid that you are talking about. I will give that a try and let you know what that does. Also yes both plug,s are getting spark. Is it possible that im not getting enough spark ?. the goo that was in my exaust had the smell on gas to it.

The black oily residue you are seeing is from a very rich running engine and too on these engines if lets say you do alot of ideling you will see this residue even on a good running engine the recurculation system cannot keep up if you do alot ideling so before you put it the trailer make a run to clean her out or you will have this stuff running down the skeg and dripping on the ground when you drop it down in the run position OPTI

Opti I checked the solinoid it looks to be working fine. I did get it to run today took the carb off and took it apart to try and see if anything was stopped up. did find a needle vaulve that has a little ware on the end. But it did the same thing after I put it back together.

I don't do a lot of ideling most of the time it is full throddle. Which add,s up to about 24mph is it possible that the carb has sucked something up and is clogged some how ? Is it safe to use carb cleaner to a 2 cycle or can that hurt it. Is it possible even though I am getting spark that it may not be hot enough. Or do you think I am just getting to much gas through the carb for it to fire. The motor will not idle I have to rev it up to get it to run.
