Your wife would like Amistad better for a vacation trip.

I love both lakes, You have beauty at Amistad but heaven at Falcon. Amistad is putting out good fish but Falcon tops it.

There is nothing prettier than that Amistad water, but the big girls are at Falcon if she is more geared towards fishing. Amistad has nice hotels and chain restaurants. It's way closer for me and I will fish Amistad more than Falcon just bc of convenience. Angler's is my home away from home lol

Not enough info for a good answer. It is like Charlieecho indicated. It all depends on what she likes and is looking for. Overall Del Rio has better accommodations than Zapata (some of the ones out by the lake are not very good) and decent food is a lot easier to find.
For scenery, Amistad can not be beaten. For pure fishing it comes in a distant second to Falcon now, but what lake doesn't.
If I was in the same situation, my wife would opt for Falcon. She loves to go to Amistad but she sure does like to catch some of those big girls at Falcon.
May be a good idea to just explain the difference between the two lakes and decide from there.
Also not a bad idea to fish both of them.

Been to both for the first time in the Last 6 months. Amistad hands down for taking the better half. A lot more scenery, wildlife, touristy things and the fishing is great. We actually caught more fish on Amistad than Falcon, although the quality of fish on Falcon was far superior. Would recommend booking Curt Dove your first day to get you started.

Thanks JR! If those water temps continue or warm some the bite should only get better.

I think if the main focus is to get the wife, who you said is a newbie, into the sport, I'd choose Amistad. Lots of good reasons listed above, plus the fishing is generally easier, as in less technical, at Amistad. And there's also a good chance of hitting some schooling fish, both blacks and whites, in April. Those are always fun for inexperienced fishers.
