I have a 2003 Nitro 750 SC with a Mercury 115 Optimax and a Laser 2, 22 pitch 3 blade (cupped) prop with ports. I am having major problems getting on plane when I have a full tank of gas and Livewell is full. My WOT RPM is 5200 when I finally get on plane. I went to a local prop shop & they had me try a 4 blade 23 pitch, I never could get on plane. They now say that this problem is common for my motor because of the gearing. They're suggestion is to put new plugs in the ports with a larger hole. Does that sound right? If not, what prop would you suggest?

I've rigged quite of few of those boat/motor combos, and it's indeed quite a dog on holeshot.

The best combination was a powertech RXB 4 blade 22 pitch with 3/8" vent holes.

On a poor holeshot, one of two things are going on, either the motor is lugging badly, and is straining to power your hull up on plane, or..it's cavitating and spinning out, unable to get a good bite on the water.

Two different problems, two different fixes.

Thanks Pat, I appreciate the advice. I think I'll try that prop. Mine doesn't seem to cavitate, it's more of the lugging problem.
