I'm going to take a trip to Toledo Bend at the end of March for a 10 days or so. I've never been there before so where would a guy go? It's a BIG lake, so where would I start and what's a good place to stay? I'm not looking to catch a DD bass, just catch a few, drink a few beers, eat some good food, enjoy the scenery and meet some of those great Texas folks. flag cheers fish What sort of lures work there, and any crappie info would be nice as well.

Thanks for the help,

George

bridge bay resort is a great place to stay. It is in the middle of the lake so you can go any direction, has cell phone service, and you can walk to the beer store.

in march cant go wrong with a senko weightless or a spinner bait

as for crappie I enjoy bass fishing more than crappie but if I can happen upon a group I will catch them. So what I do in the spring is bass fish like normal and have a pole with a crappie jig on a cork out the back of the boat when I get hooked up on it I stop and make some casts in the area and usually catch alot that way

if your fishing late march on tb, then you'll have fish on a variety of patterns. Some will be one beds still, while a good portion of the fish will be post spawn, depending on where in the lake you are fishing.

If you've never been here before, a word of caution, the lake is currently 10' low. I will run most boat lanes right now, but for someone who doesn't know the lake it is very dangerous right now.

Do you know which lanes were cut this time. I heard it was
around cypress bend, but not sure after that.

Nothing got "cut" they had a guy with a barge and a track hoe supposedly break stumps off. So basically not jack got cleared. At 161.5. A friend of mine idled just to to the island north of cypress and said the rode up on stumps every thirty feet or so in the boat road. Bad enough the had to turn when they would get up on the stumps to get off them. I would be very catious for a first time bend runner. Several places there are ridges rumning across the boat road that are not safe. I fish toledo probably 30 weekends a year and i wont run very many places yet. If it hits 163 should be good for most lanes down south.

As for fishin hard to beat a wat red fluke or lizard c rigged n spring season.

Capt. Joe Joslin is the man around there. Read his fishing reports or better yet have him take you out a couple of days.

Catch a few in Housen Bay. Drink beer, eat food, and enjoy the scenery at Fin and Feather.

What he said!!! Fin & Feather was recently purchased at an auction. My favorite area of the lake to consistently catch bass year round. Just be careful like everyone has advised.
