Here's the deal...I'm about to bring home an awesome 2000 Blue Wave 220 Classic from a friend of mine that just doesn't use it.
He's making me a heck of a deal on it (cheap) and I can pay him over the course of the next year or so...when I have the money. You know...a thousand here...thousand there...until I get the total paid off to him.
Will not having the boat titled/registered in my name cause any problems with the Police/Game Warden?
What do I need to have with me (documentation) ON the boat when I take it out to prove I'm legal?

The registration needs to be current. Your buddy needs to give you the blue card for boat registration, so you have it with you.
I assume after you've paid it off he'll transfer the title.

and of course you need some type of bill of sale and NOTE payable..........or you are trusting your "buddy" to give you the title later.

Yep, i think he can go ahead and give you the title and list himself on the title as the lien holder.

Something needs to be on paper... a bill of sale, a note payable, title transfer... SOMETHING to protect each other's interests in light of possible future events.
What if something tragic happens to your friend and his wife or son comes over to get "his" boat before the title is transferred?
Things like this can destroy friendships if deals such as these aren't spelled out beforehand.
Just MHO...
I've never killed anyone, but I've read several obituaries with great enjoyment.

Yeah - I know we'll write up/sign a "Bill of Sale". I've done that before. I just wanted to make sure this was documentation enough to keep me from getting in legal trouble if boarded by Coast Guard or Game Wardens and if/when they check the registration.

Get it transferred. Do a note and have him listed as lienholder on the title. Otherwise, if U run over someone and hurt them, he'll be responsible. Not a good thing. That's a great boat, btw ! You'll love it ! Sure you still want it? I'd give a dollar or two for it, myself....chuckle...
Now, Donald...please pick John Bolton for your running mate.
