i guess if boats run on river banks, the steel rods that the bank poles are on mite be a problem ... they are not in the water, hence the name "BANK POLES" ... :-)) ... we are talkin' throwlines in rivers here ... not trotlines in lakes

the regs as per the TPWD website state that metallic stakes cannot be used for a trotline ... if you got in dutch with game warden for that, i guess you shoulda read the regs

catfishing is now an industry ... it's best for the industry to eat baby catfish

This is true. The rule applies to metal stakes for trotlines, as many would take a stick of rebar (or something similar) stab it in the ground to ties to. Even if you put PVC over it, it still has the metal stake. On lakes, this is extremely dangerous & hazardous if the water level rises. They can literally icepick a fiberglass hull in no time.

But the rules of no metal stakes does not apply to throwlines yet, unless some idiot starts doing it like the method above for trotlines. From the bank of a river they should be OK, unless the river rises an extreme amount. But due to a rod in a river bank compared to a rod out in the lake, they are different as to possible implication & application of damages

Does anyone know if the blues are thick enough to mess with on the brazos around College Station or should I just focus on the Ops? Ive got some good looking spots scoped out so I may just chunk some juglines one afternoon and see whats home.

Yea, that area has some nice blues. Stay with those jugs, just might see one take off. We use fresh cut bait. I like cut perch myself for river blues. Good luck

If you catch a few and feel you got em figured out, try em on rod and reel. A lot more fun and can be just as productive once your on em good.

I use a machete to make bank poles. New willow poles make excellent, flexible poles for throw lines, add a cow bell and sit at camp, rod n reel fish while listening for the bells.....it doesn't get any better... fish

i kayaked fished the brazos during my time at A&M, it has pretty awesome catfishing for both blues and yellows. Cut shad work great for blues, cut sunfish also works well and in a bind you can use chicken gizzards... stay on better than liver. personally i always switched it up using live and cut bait, blues arent afraid to hit live bait (usually like it deeper though). hardheads and sunfish are the best live bait.
