I have a Garmin 160 used it for a few years with no trouble but now it keeps cutting in & out. Any thoughts ( I know maybe a short)I've looked and can't seem to find where it could be. -------------------- Take a kid fish'n...<'{{{<

If it has an inline fuse holder, try looking at that first for corrosion (sp?).If it is,change it out with a better water tight fuse holder. If it was a short you would be blowing fuses.More then likely it's a bad connection somewhere.

Had the same problem with mine too--had to send it in to get it repaired--even though it was out of warranty, Garmin did the right thing and serviced my unit at no charge!

I went to the Garmin website and sent an email to service or whatever they call it and they replied with a phone number to call and get a shipping number. I then sent the unit in and they repaired it, sent a new tranducer , all free of charge in about 10 days. The only cost was shipping and insurance to them.
