I am looking for some one that can rebuild a tilt cylinder or a used one for a 79 merc 90 hp inline 6. I need the left side.

We can rebuild it for you. You can ship it to us with the serial number of your motor and we can rebuild and ship back to you.

Tommy,

I have a similiar problem (I think). I have a 1977 Johnson 140. My Tilt/Trim set-up consists of 3 pistons. One bigger one in the middle and two on each side. The resevior is on the right side and the pump/motor? is on the left. The piston on the right is alittle leaky. Is this a trim cylinder? I heard it is probably a worn O-ring that can be replaced. Is this true? If so, what is the average price to have this bugger fixed? Didn't mean to hi-jack your thread home_built, just lookd like a good oppurtunity to get an answer to a problem I have had for awhile. Thx Shane

hou-chap, Sorry for the delay in getting back to you but we have been in the Tackle Show for the last four days. Your repair for one trim cylinder is approx. $105.00. Just double the price if we need to do the other one.

Tommy,

Thx for getting back. That sounds fair, it's only that one cylinder. Where abouts is Rockwall? I am located in Houston. I travel all over though, and could maybe drop it off and pick it up, if my travels take me through that area.

hou-chap, We are 25 miles east of Dallas. It might be a pretty good haul for you but we will work on it if you get it to us. By the way, has this motor seen saltwater? If it has you may have some corrosion that could make the job more difficult and costly.

Tommy, on my cylinder it is leaking and when I put motor in reverse it does not hold the motor (it bounces up) would a rebuild fix this problem?

home_built, It may could cause your problem if the leak is really excessive or if the o-rings in the cylinders are blowing by. More than likey you may have a problem with your control valve on the bottom of your pump. The older units actually had a knurled knob that you could turn to manually raise a motor. If yours has this on it then read the directions on the pump body and make sure yours is in the right position. It has been to long ago for me to remember the correct direction to turn the knob.
Good Luck, Tommy Yetts

Thanks Tommy, I will check the valve and make sure it is in the right direction. How hard is it to seseal the cylinders? I am a mechanic by trade and was wondering if I could do it myself.

Tommy,
I just replaced the o-ring under the left motor on my tilt trim on a 100 hp Evinrude. It still is leaking out the hydraulic fluid. I used a spanner wrench and replaced the oned coming out around the pistons that come out. Those leaks are now fixed. I checked the OMC book and have no idea of what to do next. I may get another o-ring and try it again in case the last new one got pinched. If this doesn't work, any ideas?
