My 16 ft. V-hull center console fishing boat with an 80 HP Mariner takes on a list to port when I am under power. I have 2 SS props that I use. One is a 21 p. the other is a 18 p. With the 18p, the boat goes on an even keel. With the 21p. it really heels over. Is this an indication of a bent or distorted blade? I had it checked at Dallas Propeller with a pitch gauge and it was not that far off. How far off can it be before problems are noticed? Marbravo

Mar,
With a list to port, I would think that with the 21p prop you are just over propped. You might want to try trimming up 1/4 to see if that will help it run straighter.

Thank you for getting back so fast. My boat is 7' wide at the chine! It takes a heck of a force to make it list like it does. I have tried all trim positions to no avail. Did you mean to trim the prop? Not easy for me to do. I have loaded my coolers to the stbd. side to help compensate for the listing. It is more pronounced when I have a port side passenger along side me at the console. The prop shop said he didn't think I was overpropped, but you may have a good point. Maybe someone else has experienced this problem and have a good explanation. Thanks again. Marbravo

Not an uncommon situation with a V hul boat. Especially if it is a light weight boat. Trim tabs have been used for a long time to correct this. I had an aluminum 17.5' CC for a while and it did the same thing. I loved that old boat and the list was the only downside to it. It would glide through about any water and I loved the way it would handle.

My 18.5 CC will list as well when I have a passenger, but it's really only noticable if you are looking down the center, because I rode as a passenger this week and although the driver mentioned it, I couldn't tell from where I was.
