The thought of moving out to TX has crossed my mind numerous times. People on the west coast are just a different breed. I'm originally from NJ and moved to San Diego for the weather which is amazing. Fishing is slow but there are monsters here. Love being outdoors with golf, fishing and coaching football. But many times I feel California is just not right. To top it off, none of the lakes allow a dog on your boat while fishing!
I like Texas, the people, sweet tea, BBQ, Academy, Pluckers, football, close to a bunch of high schools and youth football leagues (I'm a football coach) and Bass fishing. Everything seems right there except for me the extreme summers and sometimes cold winters is why I left NJ. But with so much focus on fishin' and football in TX I think I could get used to it again haha.
So my question is, where would be a great spot to live? Not a hill billy town but also not some pompous stuck up area either. Need to be relatively 'central' or not a far drive away for a big amount of high school football students to travel weekly for my lessons/camps. So somewhere NOT out in the boondocks away from civilization. And where would a good proximity be for fishing options within 45 minutes away drive or so and maybe some even closer. Any suggestions based on above would be nice. Thank You all.

Not country and not really full-blown city either. I'd say a nice suburban community/neighborhood with relatively easy access to city areas. Proximity to shopping centers, malls, restaurants... BPS! And please don't forget proximity to several good lakes (within 40 minutes drive to the 'home lakes' and less than 1.5 hours for other bigger day trip lakes. I have a boat and would want to take advantage at least 2x a week bassin'.

Austin would be pretty hard to beat. A lot of buddies moved to Austin. I've been there a few times the last 3 years (as well as several times in Dallas) and love it. The only thing is, Austin seems like there is not much in way of bass fishing. More focus on recreational lakes and they tend to be over run by jetskiers, pleasure boaters and boozers from spring through end of summer. What lakes are good in Austin? The North Austin area is pretty awesome- I liked driving around I35 by Round Rock, Pflugerville, etc. Seems like a cool spot. I also like being up in Grapevine and Arlington, however the traffic up there seems like a biatch sometimes.

Sounds like Rockwall would be a perfect spot for you. Just east of Dallas right on the edge of the counrty. Good restarunts, great schools, close proximity to the best lakes in the world. Rockwall is the fastest growing county in the US but still has it's counrty charm where its needed but in a city....if you get what I mean. Live next to Ray Hubbard, Lavon, T-wok and a few other lakes really close and only 45-minutes to an hour to Fork!
Not let a dog on a boat? Whats up with that, are they afraid the dog is going to pee in the water or something. You need to get away from the land of fruits and nuts and get to Gods country. As beautiful as San Diego is, California is plain nuts. Just don't bring their politics with you!

I coached football for 17 years in Texas and I want to know how you manage to get to the lake twice a week??? Please do share. Fooball coaches in Texas aint fishing twice a week between the end of July and the middle of November, thats a guarantee.
