Seriously again... one or two stories a year plus ago and people still think iT's so unsafe. The media nowdays is a joke, they make a mountain out of a mole hill it's ridiculous. To the o.p. ,man there are so many people on falcon daily that if something bad happend you would hear about it. Like said, thetexas side is fine if your worried about the mexican side. My first trip down we fished the texas side all 3 days and had a 38 and a 47 pound sacks on back to back days. Yeah we got ultimately lucky in finding a great ditch fool of big fish but next time I'm fishing Mexico to test it out. My advice, go spend a few days on the lake. Enjoy the fishing and the scenery and just get away. Like Barrett said Dallas and Houston are way more dangerous.

I can bring you to 2 places on the lake where you can get killed if you choose, but overall you are fine. I would not roll on the mexican side at all packing heat.

Like others have said that drive thru Laredo is alot scarier than falcon. We went thru one stretch there where traffic was backed up and the streets where really narrow. I just new somebody was gonna walk up and start unhooking graphs while we sat in traffic. One thing we do because of the gill nets is carry a broomstick with a razor blade fixed to the end. My buddies fished the co-angler side of the elite tournament in 08 and got the idea from some of the pro's. Luckily we have never had to use them but it should make it alot easier to get loose if you can cut your way out from the back deck.

Bring a sharp knife and a change of clothes in the boat in case you find one of those blame nets. We found one and it took 10 mins. to cut it out of the prop. My boat has a ladder in the back which we had to use to reach the prop. The net looked brand new so we got out of the area afterwards before the owner came checking it. That was the most uncomfortable we felt the whole trip.

I hope you didn't cut the main line. That would really piz them off! I just use scissors to cut the webbing if I have to, but always leave the main lines intact!

Plus 1!!!!! We all need to do our part to be responsible users of the lake.

Are these lines marked?? What depth are they normally in? Do you really believe it is worth going down there if you just stayed on the Texas side??

You cannot build character and courage by taking away people's initiative and independence.
You cannot help people permanently by doing for them, what they could and should do for themselves.

It is worth going down to just fish the USA. But Mexico is awesome. The nets are a nuisance but manageable. They are not all marked. Once you get back in a cut your better off using the trolling motor. You just need to keep your eyes open. The nets are usually longer then you would think.

Normally nets are back around bushes but last weekend there were a lot of them running the main river channel. Those ones were well marked.

We've seem them anywhere from 10' on up. They are usually not far below the surface and marked with jugs. When you get the unmarked ones seems to be closer to shore where they can tie off to trees and such. I'm sure others here know alot more about them but that was my experience. The Texas side is definitely worth fishing. The elite series event was won on the Texas side. I just wouldn't limit myself to fishing Texas only.

Jersey Dan, where might those two places be? I would like to make sure I do not find them the hard way. Please share...

Oops...my bad. Wish I had taken a photo of the mess we had to cut out. Don't see how it would have been possible to save the main line. Plus this was in the middle of the creek and unmarked with the exception of some small little black floats that you couldn't see unless you were right on them.
