I recently bought an 06 20i. It is equipped with a humminbird 997 at the console. The unit will show the down imaging and the side imaging but will not show anything about the gps. It says that it can not find the gps location. I am assuming that the gps receiver is out. Is this assumption correct?

Im unsure on the answer ,but if it doesn't aquire a gps point then i would call humminbird and ask them what it means, and a possible solution.

Does it need a puck and you do not have the puck? Some of them have internal recievers some of them don't.

check the connections on the gps puck. 997 should have an external gps.

yea sounds like you have a puck issue. just to verify, your not trying it in the garage are you? it wont pick up in there.

It has a puck and no im not trying it in the garage. I was on rayburn. My buddy tells me that puck going out isnt unheard of. I will buy a new one i guess and see if that solves the issue.

before you buy a puck make sure and check the connections first, might save you a lot of money. it's not uncommon for the connections to be bad. If you know someone that has a humminbird that you can hook up to it will also tell you if its the puck or not. where are you located?

I live in stephenville. I have looked at the pucks at hummingbird and the go for about 150. I will probably call the hummingbird help line and see what they recommend. I like your idea to check with someone elses unit though.
