Hi capjun, I posted this on a separate post but would like to get your expert opinion. You have done a superb job of helping everyone out - THANKS!

I have a 2004 Blue Wave with a 90hp 2 cycle Yamaha. Last weekend I drove across the lake at full throttle in a strong headwind, and when I slowed down at the ramp, my idle was stuck at 14-1600 rpms. It usually idles around 700 rpm.

Do you know what might have caused this?

How should I adjust the idle back down?

Mr. Watts,
Thank you for for the kinds words. I'm happy to help where I can.
I would look at the throttle linkage on your engine to see if anything is preventing it from returning to idle. If you look under the flywheel, make sure the linkage to the timer base, ( if so equiped ) is in tact and is moving freely with advance and return of the throttle.
I'm not up to speed on the new Yamaha's. You might ask Mr. Yates at rockwall Marine, I beleive they are a Yamaha dealer.
Hope this helps,
Capjun

Heya capjun.
I have a Merc Classic 50 on a 20` ft pontoon.
I`m having a problem getting the carbs adjusted.
The top two plugs keep fouling on me. It also seems when I get it to where it runs well at full throttle then it will sputter and die at low speeds when given throttle.
I am just finding one adjustment on the carbs, the one straight in , on top right corner that is set back from face aprx 3/4 inch( when facing motor from front).
What am I missing here?
Your help would be appreciated.

Hey CptJack,
That adjustment is for low speed only. If it sneezes at idle, it's too lean. I would open each one of those adjustment screws 1 turn out from lightly seated. Make very small adjustments from that point.
If the engine boggs on acceleration, most likely the carbs are stoped up.
Hope this helps,
Capjun

Am I misreading what you or saying or is there no high speed adjustment on these carbs?

Hey CptJack,
That's right !. The main, or high speed jets are fixed, and are not adjustable. You can replace them with larger, or smaller jets, but is not recomended unless you are running the engine at high elevation lakes.
Hope this helps,
Capjun

Thanks capjun.
It looks like you are helping a lot of folks out here on this forum. Myself and I`m sure the rest of the folks really appreciate you taking the time for this.
I set the low speed jets as you suggested yesterday and she is purring like a kitten.
Thanks again.

My 1995 Merc 115 is having issues it appears to be carburetor related since the boat will not run at high RPM's consistently. I seems to surge at times but will stall coming out of the hole and will only run the boat up to about 40-45MPH instead of the normal 50-55, and it take a very long time to get on plane, just no power! I have already replaced the fuel-line, bulb, quick connect and fuel filter which seemed to fix it for about a half day, but this weekend things got worse.

I want to take the boat to an authorized Merc dealer and have it repaired, who can you recommend, preferably in North Dallas area?

Hey John L.,
It could be in the carburetion as you suggested, or it could be the high speed side of the stator. A peak reading voltmeter is required to check this.
The only Mercury dealer that I know and suggest is Mr. Ben Dobson at Lake Park Marine off of I-35E, in Lewiseville/Lake Dallas.
If you need further assistance, I'll be happy to help.
Hope this helps,
Capjun

I didnt know I couldnt do that!

capjun,

Have a 96 200 hp V6 mercury (non efi). At the ramp when I first take it off it starts fine and idles fine. But once I put it in reverse or forward and give it gas it wants to bog down for a few minutes until it gets really warmed up. Once i do run it for awhile it is good for the entire day? Any ideas on what might be causing this? Should I run some Seafoam or B12 through it or do you think it might be something else? I have changed the plugs a few months ago btw.
Any help is appreciated.

Thanks,
Eric
