With all the shallow water fishing here, why is it that more people aren't running a pump? In the Pacific Northwest over half of the big river and all the small river boats are semi vee or flat bottom aluminum boats with a pump. They run very shallow. Joe

Jets are quirky in their own way. They do what they do well, run shallow smooth water. Mine is in trouble in big waves. No big deal where I fish now, I only have to run in big water for maybe 200 yards. But...it's worth it when you need it. Example, this weekend tides were very low, it was even dicey for us to sneak into contee lake, but it was a private affair, one airboat went by and that was it, no way possible for a prop rig to get in. But, most people fish for convenience, not fish, so they buy what is comfortable, and compromise on what isn't. But, opportunities to take your father to a "private" gaming area are worth the efforts... 7 over slot reds in a morning all in less than a foot of water this weekend. [img:center]http://

Thinking of the poling skiff, isn't the point to be able to put the motor up and pole through the shallow stuff?
I run a regular bayboat out of POC. If the tide is high and I hit it right, I can shoot into Pringle, but I usually don't. If I know the fish are there and the weather is right I bring my aluminum boat instead. It's couple thousand pounds lighter and will float in couple inches of water. It just tough to leave a bayboat in slip and fish out of a $5000 rig.
FYI, we caught a bunch of nice trout around south pass last summer.

Us guys in the little iron boats live for days the schooners can't get in...
If you're thinking hard about Pringle, then I know you're not even considering Contee or what's behind that...

i am able to get into and out of pringle on most days (except very low tide) in my 18' Blue wave Center console (not a tunnel hull). i live in Dallas so i don't get down but 2-3 times year so i had to compromise with a boat that i can fish the lakes up here with... my boat is paid off now and am thinking of buying something for Skinny water and leave it a friends house who lives just outside of seadrift...
