I don't care for the lake, but I make the trip to fish the Angelina River above it quite a bit.

Great place to take a kid fishing...

There's a ramp on the river off 64 if you haven't been there yet.

I usually catch 40-50 a trip bass fishing in the warmer months.

Topwaters till about 10 am or so, spinnerbaits and cranks after that with some plastics (flukes, trick worms and shakey heads) after the spinner bait bite dies down.

Usually you can find some bass schooling somewhere at all times. It's kind of funny topwater fishing though, as most of the best fishing I've done on poppers is from about 30 mins after fishable daylight to 10 am. Some lakes you get first 30 mins and nothing else.

This is all if they aren't generating...if they are, cranks spinnerbaits and the trick worms are even more effective, particularly the spinnerbaits.

And it's a place where I've done well catching "larger" largemouth (2+) on a spinnerbait in the super clear water with the sun beaming straight down on where I'm fishing in the middle of summer.

Definitely a neat little fishery. Also one of the only places I know in east texas that has a good redbreast sunfish fishery.

and I will definitely have an Alabama rig tied on for the next time I go there...

I like chrome/black back, but it doesn't really matter. I like the H2O Express Popper.

I've only fished the river in the Summer though, and always from the 64 bridge towards the dam.

I fish Dam B a lot, probably at least once a month, year round, more often during the warmer months. I went this last weekend and put it at Magnolia Ridge and fished the acres upon acres of flooded cypress trees they have out there. The water was extremely muddy, which means the fishing was horrible. I caught two dinks on a KVD 1.5 crank in gizzard shad. Usually when the water is clearer, I can catch 20-30-40 bass in there. My biggest in there is about 3#. I have friends who've told me of of 5#, 7#, and 10# bass being caught, but I've never personally seen one over 3-4#. Great place to fish poppers, cranks, frogs, traps, spinners, senkos, etc... Dam B was my "training ground" when I first got into bass fishing a couple of years ago.

I run up to the Angelina all the time... last time there, about three weekends ago, I was catching white bass and largemouth on cranks and roadrunners, back-to-back casts.

I've fished most areas of the main lake north of 190, both east and west side. I don't fish much below 190... caught a couple of decent fish, but not enough to make me keep going back to the south side. I want to explore the area closer to the dam, but I've never run down that far... it's a big lake, but way out in the middle it's only 2 feet deep. I bottomed out my 18' Champion several times one time... finally turned around and headed back north!

Lately I've been fishing the main river, both the Neches and the Angelina. The Angelina is much clearer, of course, so I fish it more. I haven't been doing it long, just the last few trips, so I can't say it is more productive than all the little lakes that stick off to the side of the main rivers. I just get the feeling that there are some pretty nice bass that hang out in the river and never go up in those side lakes!

I've never heard of or seen any tournaments going on out there, but I don't see why there shouldn't be... it's a great little place to fish. When I don't have time to run from Kountze to Rayburn or Toledo, or just want to do a quick afternoon trip like I did Saturday, Dam B is where I go.
