I'm looking for some opinions on the basstender 10.2? Keep in mind this would be my first boat & boating experiance. Would this be a good choice for a begginer? I'm very interested in the boating for bass thing at this point in my life. I would like a small light boat that I can handle by myself. I'm only interested in spending 2K for the whole set up including electronics.

If you are talking about the Bass Tender, I believe they make a 9.4, 10.6 & 11.3. Very good boats if used in the right conditions. I would stick with the 10.6 or 11.3.

I have an 11.3 but may have opted for the 10.6 if I had bought it new, however, I found a decent deal on a pre-owned 11.3.

See: http://llboats.com/BT.html or www.paddleboat.com

My 11.3 is excellent for pond and small private lake fishing. I also use it on large public water such as Ray Roberts, Fork and Texoma, but only in protected water. You would not want to get caught in wind or bad weather in one of these boats.

I used mine for a year with only a trolling motor and now that I have a small outboard for it as well, it has allowed me to fish more water with it.

Although I really like mine, I do not know if it would be my first choice if it was my only boat. For $2K you could purchase a decent pre-owned bass boat or jon boat that would be just as easy to handle by yourself and perhaps a bit safer but again, it totally depends on where you want to fish. The difference is that with larger boats and older boats you will have additional costs for maintenance and fuel.

Check out www.boattrader.com and do search in your area for a power boat with a $2K maximum or slightly higher as most people will come down a bit. Use key words such as "bass" or "tracker" or any other brand that you are considering. You will find a bunch of options.

Also, if you are going to get a Bass Tender, you most likely will need a trailer as they are much heavier than most plastic boats and weight around 250 pounds before you put on the trolling motor, fish finder, outboard, gas tank, paddles, gear, etc... If you are looking for one that you can put in the back of a pick up, I do not think the 11.3 will fit and even if it did, you would need help to launch and put back in the truck. I think the 10.6 fits but you should ask the company it if matters to you. I often use mine solo but always make sure that there is a ramp that I can use and since I have a trailer, it makes it easy.

Again, a used bass boat will come well equipped and can be purchased for under 2K. Just be careful on who you buy it from and shop around, don't buy the first one you come across until you know what you want.

Good luck,
BlueMoon
