The Facebook TPW page reports the SAL caught out there the 27th of Dec. has too much Northern Bass in the blood and will not be used in the genetic pool of the SAL program. It was 2/12ths. A replica will still be made and the fish will be included in the record. Fork will still recieve fingerlings for the catch. The fish will be returned to Fork soon.
Dont kill me if this is old news, went through several pages and didnt find anything on this in the Bass section.

It was news to me. I can't agree more, keep Yankee bass out of Fork.

I kinda thinking that the chances of finding another 100% is slim.

Very few are the required percent of Florida strain to be spawned. I'm just happy she is alive. Great job fisherman and tpwd.

That is what makes them fish bite in the cold is that northern strain. Why are they catching giants at Camelot Bell then?

A good mix would produce fish that grew big and bit better in the cold.

I think this sheds more light that SAL is only around because of Florida strain bass. So if it's not the hybrids between northern and florida strain that create big fish, then stocking lakes with florida fingerlings has just about the same chances as SAL finglerlings.

If it wasn't for Florida strain bass there wouldn't be any 13+ lb bass in Texas. Northern Strain don't get that big. TP&W does a good job on these lakes.

TP&W sold out the future of Texas bass fishing by wanting to produce the world record bass. They got what they wanted in the short term with the introduction of the Florida strain and all the DD fish publicity but the record didn't happen and never will. Unfortunately, in the process they killed an incredible northern bass fishery. There is a reason Florida bass are not native here. Mother nature always knows best. If you yearn for the good old days of 100+ fish/day spend a week in Minnesota catching the much more aggresive Northern Bass then call TP&W and request that the Northerns be brought back home.

I don't know Cosmo it is a toss up in my mind, I live in MN and had 1 85 fish night in 5 hours of fishing last year, and a couple over 50 in shorter time periods, this was by myself, but that chance of catching a DD doesn't exist here. I don't think their management goal is to completely eliminate the Northern Strain but just give a better chance at the fish of a lifetime. I would encourage the hybrid personally, a little bigger with the aggressiveness of the Northern strain would be one hell of a fish, I wish our waters up here could hold em!
