You can't buy them. You have to catch them. Birds of prey are protected by federal and state law. You have to obtain a license after passing exams and game warden inspections of your property with facilities to house the animal.
This is a wild bird caught less than 2 months ago. Here is Blake baiting the bird from the trees in the back yard. He loves working with it.

Falconry. Very nice. My ex-boss is a licensed falconer. Is falconer a word? grin

That is awesome. I have often thought how cool it would be to have your very own killer animal. I bought a cat once, but no dice. She just licks my face when I sleep.

The worst thing that could happen is to be "footed." He is wearing a kevlar glove to help prevent a problem. You have to keep your arm at an angle where your hand is elevated or even with your elbow. If you drop your hand, the bird could climb up your arm to your shoulder.
You also can't pull your arm away when it is baiting. Blake has to keep still so the bird "hones in" on the intended target, his hand. You don't want to lose your nerve, pull back and the bird decide to land on your head.
Blake is rather careful and seemily understands animal behavior well. He started handling venomous snakes last year and isn't afraid. He is very astute and gets into a zone of awareness.
