"...am planning on installing a 798 on my Sea Ark Stealth. Problem is, the transom is stairstepped"
"Stair-step" or setback transoms no longer present any imaging or high speed transducer mounting issues when installed correctly. SternMate™ has the "RULES" and the tools to do it correctly the 1st time!

Images from a HB 598DI. I am fishing a new lake and can't decide if these images are a brush pile or fish schools. They are taken from a large flat area with little bottom structure. All help appreciated. [I

You have just a little brush but a whole lot of fish!
Top image on the right side you have fish munching on a bait ball too.

Thanks Doug. Some times I can't distinguish the brush piles from the schools.

A brush or limb the returns are normally connected like right in the middle on the bottom in top image above straight above your second image the Fish ID 14' Depth Fish see the log? The fish have no connection and are more dots the bigger dots are bigger fish and the bait balls are like clouds or really small dots. Hope that helps.

Doug, In the views available for the 1198, can a future update make it possible to have a three screen view showing SI, DI and Chart all in the same view. This would really help keep boat in position while viewing SI and DI. The current three way view does not include Chart. Thanks. Also, what are your three favorite views for your three preset view buttons?

That could be...not sure what the masterminds at Humminbird are working on.
I don't use chart much with my sonar readings because of the ease to change in one click to another favorite with Humminbird. I run 2 sets of favorites depending on what I'm doing
Searching - Practice Days 1) 10% 2D and 90% GPS Mapping for running the lake 2) 10% 2D,DI and 90% SI 3) Full Screen SI
Tournament Days 1) 50% GPS Mapping and 50% GPS Mapping Zoomed In 2) 90% SI and 10% GPS Mapping 3) Full Screen SI
3)

Humminbird 2012 Software Update for the 898c and 998c... You will have the ability to remove the readout boxes on the Left side of your Side Imaging View and now have the depth and the temp displayed at the bottom of the screen. Now you can maximize your viewing area for Side Imaging. This software will be released in January for the 898 and the 998. Doug, is this the 5.7 sw? or is it not out yet? Thanks

No is it not 5.700, it will be a higher number. The waypoint management update is 5.840 for some units already released. The new 898/998 software hasn't been released yet.

Yes, in Simulator you can use all the settings and functions that are used in normal operating mode except you won't see a temp readout and you cannot choose which location to show the temp. unless you have the transducer connected or a aux temp sensor connected. I use my units in my den a lot for software updates, waypoint management, practicing with settings, and as a reference for answering questions like this.

Can you use eitherlink to link a 787c2 and 989si to share waypoints? You can InterLink but not Ethernet since the 787c2 is not Ethernet compatible but the INterLink will work with those two models.

Thanks Doug, is it worth it? I have heard it is not all that great and can be a hassle to try to get the bugs worked out. What are your thoughts on it?

Both Systems Work fine. I've used InterLink for several Years and Ethernet this year and both are great networking. Ethernet just has more expandability.
