Keep up the reports on City park lake. This year after the season I would like to try and convince the City of Mesquite to do something better/different using this thread. I fished it last year and never caught a trout. Not even gonna try this year.

Do you still have to go to city hall and get the card? i think it was a $1. Whats the average size trout they stocked this year?
The trout will need a couple days to adjust before they start hitting.

FishHarder, what have you been using for bait?

Any new reports on Mesquite City Park , Ive tried at least twice a week since the first stock for a couple of hours each time. Have tried various spoons and jigs to no avail . Planning to try trout bait next . Have Heard of at least 3 caught all on bait .

I have used several types of power bait, artificials, and even the dread fresh kernel corn to no avail at City pond. This was last year. Since they quit stocking at Samuel Farm I tried City pond but it is worthless. Especially with the way they dole the trout out during the season. The pond is too big and the amount of trout stocked per session is too small to have any effective hope of catching trout much less little kids getting to.

I'm through with Mesquite City Lake...too dang hard to catch those, even though they are a little bigger than normal.
Went to Irving the other day (Wed) and it's so easy, I had to give fish away after five limit. Going back this afternoon.
A guy out there turned me on to a new color that worked great. Orange Pulp with glitter. I was constantly getting hits on the fall. He said he was looking for a copper color but couldn't find it. I bought what he had in the Orange as he was leaving. I'm hooked on Orange Pulp now, if I can find anymore. BPS didn't have it.

Someone should suggest what they do in McKinney, fence off a section.

That's a good idea about fencing off a portion. How early can you get to the Irving pond? Their website mentioned 9am but I don't know if that means the pond also or just the center.

Man some of yall forgot about the sport an act like the fish should jump in your lap. Why not just stay home and watch a TV fishing show.
Try more natural baits. Use those computers and do some research and then maybe you might learn something and catch those Trout.
Just means more for me and my kids to catch if yall give up that easy.

Well, I have an idea for you Yukon. Go to City pond in Mesquite for a couple weekends and let us know how you do. You remember that snow we had a few years ago? I was out in it catching trout.Limited that day. I have fished many ponds for the trout and done well, limiting more often than not. I don't expect them to jump in my lap but when hatchery trout are stocked for the express purpose of catching then I do expect to have better luck than I have had at City Pond which is zero. Have you read this whole thread or are you just knee-jerking a reaction? Have you fished City pond in the last three years?

Irving pond has been great. I would pay more taxes to have times like this. My sister brought my Great Nephew out and as he walked up to me (first time to meet him) I had a trout on the line and handed him the pole and held it while he reeled it in. He's only 3 year old. Pulled the fish in, took this picture, and baited and pitched the line back out. He picked up the pole and said "I wanna' nothern one" Just so happened, anothern one just got on the pole he was holding. Let him reel it in and I think I got "anothern" hooked on fishing. He may not remember me as his Great Uncle, but I'd bet he remembers those first fish. You meet the nicest people out fishin'
