Anyone got a relatively inexpensive way of painting a boat and half [censored] turning out decent. I know it's kind of a [censored] shoot but worth a shot to ask.

.

1. Knock off any loose paint with sander or
wire brush.

2. Clean metal will solution of water and Dawn
soap. Rinse well with water.

3. Degrease metal with denatured alcohol wiped on
with clean rags.

4. Prime metal with a self etching primer. This is a critical step if
you want the paint to stick. Just Google "self etching primer".
You will find many to choose from.

5. Top coat with the durable paint of
your choice.

Cabelas has a gallon of duck boat paint for $45. Green is more darker brown. I just painted over my old lowe boat paint after cleaning, sanding some spots, and applying aluminum boat primer to bare metal(from lowes). I used a 2"chip brush and a 4" paint roller for all of it. My 16' after 1 coat I had almost a half gallon left for future touchups. It is a flat finish. I only bass fish, no duck hunting. I second www.tinboats.net . A wealth of info for jonboat owners.

one more thing if you buy it from the store call first and make sure they have it in stock, it is in the online store if you want to check the colors available. take in to a paint store and have them shake the can for you. mine was a little solid in the bottom.

Whered you get a pic of my boat? 16" lowe big jon, painted it hunter green, seems more dark brown. I would check out tinboats and do a search on cabela Parker duck boat paint. some guys use a grayish color which might be better unless you go camo for duck hunting then the green might be better soap
