If I mount a bow mounted trolling motor at the front of the boat, can I mount it diagonally? In other words, offset from parallel to the centerline of the boat. And if so, should it be mounted so that when the motor is put into the water, must it be at the center of the boat? I haven't looked at many set ups and want to install a foot control Motor Guide on a small two man bass boat. I need to preserve all the room up front that I can, hence the question of mounting it diagonally. Thanks to anyone who can give me some pointers.

On most small 2-man boats, it's fairly obvious where to mount the trolling motor, and a transom mount unit is the way to go. It'll have a lever that will allow it to flip back, so it doesn't hit when you go ashore. Also, it'll have a set-screw type adjustment to allow veritical adjustments to control how deep it's in the water.

Based on that, I'm assuming you have one of the Pro-120 or other V-hulled type 2-man boat. Here's an article I read recently about a touring pro in Nevada who uses one for small lakes. He had it custom rigged by the factory, an some of his ideas are now options from the factory.

There is one picture that clearly shows an overhead view of the boat, and you can see the foot controlled motor mounting bracket. They covered the 2x4 or 2x6 frame with matching carpet for cosmetic reasons.

I hope that helps you out with your project.

By the way, if you don't have a rear rudder, you can get one here.
If you don't have a gasoline engine, it'll really help keep the boat tracking straight, and will save you from having to buy a trolling motor for the rear.

Thanks Kelly, that info is just what I need. I already had a Minn Kota transom mount and the Motor Guide Foot Control unit was just given to me, so I'm looking at the best way to use it.
