My father in law just bought a 2003 procraft super pro 200.It has a 2002 Mercury 200hp carburated motor on it.The prop is a trophy 24 pitch. It also has a 10 inch procraft jack plate. We have only had it on the water once on a very small private test run lake, just big enough to get it on plane and shut it down, not big enough to get any speed up.The boat seemed to really stand up when flooring it to get on plane. It also seemed really slow to plane out.The motor seems to be sitting to low to me but how do I really know.Do you think he should try a different prop or does that seem about right? He said the water pressure was between 15 and 20 lbs but I never looked at it.Any suggestions or help would be appreciated.

Set the prop shaft at 3 1/2" below pad and start from there. Until you can actually get it somewhere to run it, it'll just be a guess.

jasonD. One problem your having is the procraft is a heavy boat. When you nail the throttle and the bow really goes up high. The prop is over ventilating. You need a cavitation ring. I agree with Pat on where to set the propshaft height. If you don't know how to do it. It's simple. Place a level under the pad of the boat. Adjust the trailer jack up or down till the boat is level. Then place the level on the cavitation plate on the engine, and trim down till level. Measure from the ground to the pad. Then, measure from the ground to the center of prop shaft. The prop shaft center should be 3 1/2" below pad. I will say that i actually prefer the Tempest 3 blade over the trophy. But, simply installing the cavitation ring may solve your problems. They only cost about 13.00. If you're still not happy with the boats performance. Then you'll need to post more information. such as topend rpms, gps speed, etc. Or you can call me anytime.
hope that helps.

1st thanks for the info.I will check the motor height today. We will be taking the boat out tommorow so hopefully I will have more info soon.Steve can you tell me what a cavitation ring is,or looks like,or where I can look at or buy one,are they specific to the motor? I have seen those dolphin fin looking things before but I dont think I have seen a cavitation ring.Again thanks for your time!

don't put a hydrofoil on your motor. They are ugly, plus when you hit a stump you could break the cavitation plate completely off. the cav. rings are 1/4" rings that go onto the back of the propeller barrell. mercury's is black plastic. i also carry an aluminum ring made by powertech. both sell for 12.99ea.
