Bluewave: I stripped one of my plug holes about a month ago, and it cost me $100.00 to get it fixed. They replaced the valve cover, but there's some kind of a sleeve they can use if its not in bad shape.

I think you are talking about TNT's post titled 'I Hate My Boat'. He got a deal on a new powerhead, had it installed, and updated it yesterday. It's in the Open Freshwater Discussion.

Ahhh that would be me and my 1959 merc. superthunder bolt motor! well soerry I never responded back, well all i did was go down to a small parts shop down here, and I bought a "heli-coil kit" it cost me bout 28 bux and all it took to put it on was a socket wrench and a socket! I was very worried about getting shavings in the cylinder and everyone kept telling me to put allot of water or lube on the cutting tool, which also came with the kit. so i did a little thinking and I came up with this, I found a rag that was easily crumbled but wouldnt tear and i soaked it in wd-40 then i stuffed that sucker in the cylinder till it was all in there and also put wd on the cutting tool, an i went to cutting it went smoothly and cut perfect threads for me to install the heli coil an when i was done cuttin i reached in the cylinder with a pair of needle nose an grabbed the corner of the rag and pulled it out slowly and with it came all the shavings! the actual heli-coil is just a small new set of threads and you screw it on your spark plug and carefully screw it in your block! when done i pulled out the plug an it also comes with a punch you have to punch the heli-coil once installed so that the new set of threads can grab, oh yea and you have to coat the outside of the helicoil with somthing or other it helps it hold (i used jb weld leave the plug out over night and voowalla it was fixed and no shavings left over! so thats what happened thanx to all who offered there help I used it all in some way or another! now i just need to know how to prepare the gas i.e. mix with 2 cycle outboard oil? or what ratio do i mix it or can i just use regular old unleaded gas? its a 1959 mercury super thunderbolt engine we are beliveing it to be a 90 hp it has four cylinders! thanx guys
